The Carolina Mudcats lost to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 4-3, at Frawley Stadium Monday night.

Leonel Santiago (2-1) took the win for Wilmington with 5.2 innings pitched, seven runs, three hits and two strikeouts. Shawn Morimando's record dropped to 7-10 after 5.1 innings pitched, five hits, four runs and four strikeouts.

Carolina put up a 3-0 lead established in the top of the second and third innings. Singles from catcher Tony Wolters, shortstop Erik Gonzalez and a sacrifice fly from first baseman Charlie Valerio scored Wolters.

Wilmington was unable to get a hit in the first two innings.

The top of the second started off with a single from second baseman Joe Wendle and a walk for third baseman Paddy Matera. Wolters grounded into a force out to score Wendle, and he was able to advance to second on a error by Santiago. Gonzalez singled to bring the score to 3-0.

Wilmington's batters were again stumped in the third, but a Jack Lopez single, a walk and a balk got the Blue Rocks on the board.

Carolina failed to get a hit in the top of the fifth with the score 3-1.

Three consecutive singles by the Blue Rocks in the bottom of the fifth loaded the bases. Second baseman Justin Trapp was hit by a pitch to advance left fielder Yem Prades. Lopez grounded into a force out and third baseman Jared Schlehuber followed up with a single to score two and bring Wilmington ahead by one.

The Mudcats are now 20-16 in the second half and 42-64 overall. The Blue Rocks are 16-21 this half and 49-58 overall. Wilmington evened up the series by taking the middle game.

The series ends at Frawley Stadium Tuesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
