The Indians made several roster announcements on Monday morning.

Outfielder Michael Bourn was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring on Monday, a move made retroactive to March 21st, which opened the door for outfielder Nyjer Morgan to officially be named to the opening day 25-man roster. Bourn will miss at least the first four games of the season as he is not eligible to come off the disabled list until April 5th.

Third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall was informed that he made the opening day roster, which means he will likely be the regular third baseman and Carlos Santana will split his time at third base (likely against lefties) as well as catcher, first base and designated hitter.

The Indians also optioned right-handed pitchers Trevor Bauer and C.C. Lee to Triple-A Columbus, and reassigned first baseman David Cooper and first baseman/outfielder Bryan LaHair to Columbus. Luke Carlin was reassigned to Columbus but will remain with the big league team for the remainder of spring training.

The Indians also parted ways with right-hander Aaron Harang as they informed him he would not make the opening day roster and he was released. He is now a free agent.

With the roster moves it leaves just the fifth starter to be determined between Carlos Carrasco and Josh Tomlin, the seventh bullpen spot and the 25th spot on the roster which is expected to go to a pitcher. Carrasco will make the team either as a starter or reliever and Blake Wood looks all but set to get the seventh bullpen spot. The final spot on the roster could come down to the loser of the Carrasco/Tomlin battle and Scott Atchison - though if Carrasco wins the final starting job it would make more sense to send Tomlin to Columbus to continue to get regular starts.

Have to think guys like Barnes, Hynes, Herrmann and even Sellers are at risk.

What prospects will be getting DFA'd off the 40 with the addition of some of these non roster invites (ie Morgan, Atchison maybe)?

Who DH's vs. lefties when Santana's playing third and Raburn is in rightfield?
Right now the choices are Aviles and Johnson or lefties in Murphy and Chisenchump.
So to keep the platoon advantage,Francona will DH a utility infielder so his DH/back up catcher/first basemen can play third?
Or he can lose the platoon advantage and DH Raburn and play Murphy in right.

This makes sense how?

Harang already signed by the Braves. Released Freddy Garcia.

Jimmy, spring training stats are meaningless. Murphy will be fine. He mashed the ball a couple of times today with nothing to show for it. Let's not put to much stock in Frenchy having 10 RBI's and Murphy being under .200 in games that don't count. Murphy has a far more consistent track record in games that do

I'm assuming that everyone here believes that Francona does not know what he is doing? Also back in late January when the Indians signed Francouer to minor league deal most were saying why are wasting our time with this washed up player. You cant have it both ways.

I think Tomlin has out pitched Carrasco and Atchison and should win the 5th starter position with Carrasco being the short man out of the pen. I am still getting over cutting Jeff F., who was leading summer R.B.I leader with 10. David Murphy has done nothing this summer and reminds me of Johnny Damon and management will not accept that they wasted 12 million dollars on Murphy. I was hoping that Sellers, who had a very good pre-season would make the team. I can see Big G and David Murphy hitting below .200 all season long and we had a chance to do better. Big G needs to accept a coaching position since he cannot play any position other than DH. I guess the season will tell if I am right or management. I was hoping that it would be a fair competition, not a competition that management had already decided. The Cleveland fan need more.

You have to send Tomlin to AAA to have him pitch every 5. We are going to need a 6th starter some point soon and Tomlin will need to be ready. He deserves the #5 but Carrasco/options yada yada yada....

Tomlin deserves that fifth SP spot, but Wood and Carrasco are locks to make the roster, so it comes down to Tomlin vs Atchinson. Maybe the 40 status will kick Atchinson out of it, but then again he's a Tito favorite and Tomlin

I think Tomlin delivers more stability, he's more likely to produce quality starts consistently than Carrasco

If Morgan and Atchison make the club.....what two guys get the boot? Hynes and Hermann?
