NILES, Ohio ––  Going into extra innings, the Mahoning a Valley Scrappers took the 2-1 win against the Brooklyn Cyclones Wednesday.

Keeping the fans in suspense throughout the whole game the Scrappers finally defeated the Cyclones after a 12th-inning run.

At the top of the fourth the Scrappers had a successful double play with second baseman Steven Patterson fielding the ball, tossing to Austin Fisher who was covering second and then threw to first base covered by Leo Castillo to get two outs.

With runners on second and third for the Scrappers at the bottom of the seventh, a past ball enabled the runner on third to come home putting the Scrappers ahead by one.

With a ball hit to third baseman Yonathan Mendoza he threw to first, the Cyclones had a runner on second that tried going to third and first baseman Leo Castillo attempted to make the double play but couldn't because the Cyclones player was a little too fast.

With a runner on third for the Cyclones their next batter hit out to left field past Taylor Murphy's head to bring in a run to tie the game. Francisco Mejia at the bottom of the eighth had a single that advanced Leo Castillo to second.

In the top of the 10th the Scrappers maintained their defense and kept the tie game going.

The top of the eleventh inning brought a new pitcher for the Scrappers. Edward Estrella stepped in to relieve J.P Feyereisen. Austin Fisher had a nice catch at shortstop to get the first out.

Yonathan Mendoza, in the bottom of the 12th, got a hit out to right field for a single. A wild pitch put Mendoza on second. Allen bunted for a single and moved Mendoza to third. Steven Patterson got to first on an intentional walk to get the bases loaded. Leo Castillo hit a fly ball out to center where Mendoza tagged up to bring in a run and win the game.

Manager Greg Hibbard was highly impressed with the pitching throughout this twelve inning game.

"I thought Estrella battled through his three innings and made a lot of key pitches in the innings when we needed him to,” he said.

The Scrappers are set to play Thursday at the Eastwood field in Niles, Ohio.
