Williamsport, PA-One night after the Mahoning Valley Scrappers pounded out ten hits on their way to a 9-1 win, the Williamsport Crosscutters pitching staff would completely dominate. The Crosscutters held the Scrappers to just six hits before rallying to tie the game in the 7th then winning on a walk off single in the 9th for a 2-1 win.

The Scrappers grabbed the early lead. Ordomar Valdez would reach on a bunt single to start the top of the 4th inning. He would move to third on a Leo Castillo single. Francisco Mejia would then drive in Valdez on a fielder’s choice for the Scrappers lone run and an early 1-0 lead.

The Crosscutters would not get anything going offensive until Scrappers’ starter Cameron Hill left the game after the 5th inning. Hill was outstanding as he allowed just three hits and no runs while striking out six.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, Deivi Grullon started the inning by tripling to rightfield. Grullon would score whenJan Hernandez singled two pitches later to tie the game at 1.

The game would stay tied heading to the bottom of the 9th inning. Grullon again started the inning by walking off of Scrappers reliever Cortland Cox. Hernandez would then sacrifice bunt the winning run to second. Robinson Torres followed by lining a 1-0 pitch to leftfield to score the winning run.

Hill went 5 innings allowing just the 3 hits. He did walk 2 and struck out 6. Jose Zapata followed and went 1.1 innings before leaving after being struck by a line drive. Zapata allowed 1 run on 4 hits. He struck out 1. Cox (0-1) would come on after the injury and would go 2 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 run. He walked 1 and did not record a strike out while taking the loss.

The Scrappers will now head to Batavia for a three game series starting on Friday night at 7:05. If you can’t be at Eastwood Field or on the road, catch all the Scrappers games this season with Tim Pozsgai on Sports Radio 1240 AM.
