NILES, Ohio –– It was ladies night at Eastwood Field where the Mahoning Valley Scrappers played the State College Spikes.

This intense game that had the fans sitting at the edge of their seats finally came to a close with the Scrappers taking the win, 3-2.

With a runner on third for the Spikes in the second inning, their batter hit between centerfield and right field to bring in the first run of the game.

With a runner at third for the Spikes in the third inning, they hit out to left fielder Taylor Murphy who attempted to throw home to get the out but could not beat the runner and the Spikes scored once again.

Valdez on third fielded a ground ball and threw to first to get the first out at the top of the fourth. Center fielder Josh McAdams got the second out with a fly ball hit to him.

Luis DeJesus stepped on the mound to relieve Sean Brady at the top of the sixth inning for Mahoning Valley.

In the bottom of the sixth, Valdez hit a triple out to right field. Austin Fisher hit a ball to second and got out but brought in Valdez to tack on a run for the Scrappers, bringing them within one.

Manager Greg Hibbard said he was very impressed with the pitching during the game.

"I thought Brady did a pretty good job pitching in and out with his fastball,” he said.

At the top of the seventh, right fielder Greg Allen made an amazing catch on a fly ball hit out to the fences. To get to last out, Valdez fell to catch the fly ball but luckily held onto the ball to get the out.

With a walk to first, McAdams, stole second on a pass ball in the eighth inning. Another pass ball allowed McAdams advanced to third. A walk brought in another run to tie up the game. Fisher, with runners on first and second, hit out to right field and Juan De La Cruz ran and tried to go home but got out due to the right fielder throwing home. Fisher ended up at second and Valdez at third. Steven Patterson hit in the right place to bring home Valdez and give himself a single to put the Scrappers ahead by one.

Mahoning Valley held the Spikes scoreless in the ninth to end the game after the top half of the inning.
