Niles, OH- Sometimes a team runs into a hot pitcher and there is nothing that can they can do. That was the case on Thursday night at Eastwood Field as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers were held to just two hits as the fell 4-0 to the Brooklyn Cyclones.  

The Scrappers, who entered the game average eight hits a game over their past ten, were limited to just two singles. The first coming from Francisco Mejia in the bottom of the 2nd inning.Greg Allen would pick up the other hit in the 6th inning. On the night the Scrappers were retired in order five times.             

Brooklyn would get the only run they needed in the top of the 4thinning. Michael Conforto started the inning with a double. He would score when Jhoan Urena would single on the next pitch for a 1-0 lead.  

The Cyclones would tack on three more runs in the top of the 8th inning. John Mora and Amed Rosario would each single to start the inning. Mora would then score on Conforto’s RBI single. A sacrifice fly from Urena would score Rosario. Conforto would also score on Tomas Nido’s RBI single.

Julian Merryweather (1-2) started for Mahoning Valley. He went 4 innings allowing just 3 hits and 1 run. He walked 3 and struck out 3 while taking the loss. David Speer would follow Merryweather. Speer went 3.1 innings. He allowed 3 runs, all earned, on 5 hits. Speer walked 1 and struck out 6. Ramon Rodriguez would then work the final 1.2 innings. He allowed no runs on just 1 hit. Rodriguez did not record a walk or a strike out.  

The Scrappers will look for the series win against the Cyclones on Friday night at 7:05. If you can’t be at Eastwood Field or on the road, catch all the Scrappers games this season with Tim Pozsgai on Sports Radio 1240 AM.
