International Report: Indians agree to terms on four players
The Indians have been very busy in the early stages of the International Signing Period as they have already agreed to terms with at least four players. They have already doled out a total of close to $2 million to sign outfielder Hector Caro, shortstop Grofy Cruz, catcher Francisco Mejia, and catcher Yoiber Marquina.
The signing period just kicked off yesterday, July 2nd, and the signings were expected to come at a slower pace this year, or at least that is what Indians Vice President of Scouting John Mirabelli said last week. But apparently players and their buscones got the message that big money bonuses were no longer a possibility with the new CBA that limits teams to a $2.9 million bonus pool for international signings, and as a result players are agreeing to terms much sooner than expected.
