Indians show interest in free agents Cooper, Hammel
According to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports, he says the Indians have expressed interest in Hammel and have talked to his representatives. ESPN's Buster Olney later reported that the Indians have moved on as Hammel's price tag at the moment is too high for the Indians liking. The 30-year old Hammel went 7-8 with a 4.97 ERA in 26 appearances for the Orioles last season (139.1 IP, 155 H, 22 HR, 48 BB, 96 K).
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick has reported the Indians are close to resigning Cooper to a major league deal. He had been signed in August to a minor league deal that included a clause where he had to be added to the major league roster by September 1st or he could request his release. Even though it would be a major league deal, it would probably only be a one year deal for something between the major league minimum ($500K) and $1 million.
