The Indians released their roster for the American League Wildcard game against the Tampa Bay Rays tonight. The roster includes 11 pitchers and 14 position players, and really no surprises with the makeup of it.

Note, this roster is just for this game and would be changed in advance of the American League Division Series against Boston if the Indians win tonight.

PITCHERS (11): Matt Albers (RHP), Cody Allen (RHP), Rich Hill (LHP), Scott Kazmir (LHP), Corey Kluber (RHP), Justin Masterson (RHP), Chris Perez (RHP), Marc Rzepczynski (LHP), Danny Salazar (RHP), Bryan Shaw (RHP), Joe Smith (RHP)

CATCHERS (2): Yan Gomes, Carlos Santana

INFIELDERS (7): Mike Aviles, Asdrubal Cabrera, Lonnie Chisenhall, Jason Giambi, Jason Kipnis, Jose Ramirez, Nick Swisher

OUTFIELDERS (5): Michael Bourn, Michael Brantley, Matt Carson, Drew Stubbs, Ryan Raburn

For the wildcard round, I am not sure what other pitcher you can put on in place of Perez. I'm sorry, but for as bad as he has been, he has still been a mostly effective ML reliever. I can't see replacing him with Guilmet, Lee, Pestano, Tomlin, etc. And really, Perez only gets in this game tonight if it goes extras and he is the last man, just like any replacement reliever would. I expected this to happen for this game....the interesting thing though will be if Perez makes the ALDS roster. Let's win tonight so we can debate it and find out!

Why would they keep Perez on the roster? You can't really trust him in any situation, whether to protect a lead or to keep an opponent's lead from expanding. I believe he can still be with the team if he's not on the roster (I'm sure Ubaldo Jimenez and others are there tonight despite not being on tonight's roster). In my opinion, it's just a waste of a roster spot when you could have another pitcher or another position player be on the roster. Perez can provide advice and experience WITHOUT being on the roster. I hope the move doesn't come back to bite the Indians- I definitely do NOT want to see Perez in a game, no matter what he was doing earlier in the season- he just can't be trusted, no more than you could trust Pestano.

Yeah, Ubaldo is really the only change that comes when a playoff series starts. Could argue that Kluber would be the long relief guy if Masterson moves back to the rotation in the ALDS. I think ZMac is on the bubble. Would probably see Ramirez or Perez off for the ALDS, and my guess is Perez sticks. Not what I want, but I think that's the case.

I don't think they drop Hill. That would leave only 1 lefty in the bullpen as Kazmir would go back to the rotation. I could see Perez and one of Ramirez/Carson dropped though (likely Ramirez) for Ubaldo and McAllister. Don't feel you need McAllister though (but he has in a way earned a right to be on the club).

After eliminating TB would drop Hill and Perez for Ubaldo and McAllister. Can go 4 starters with days off, but need 5th in case of long relief.
Boy, who would have figured getting this far without Pestano and little from Perez. Hope they are able to get it together for next year.

Why can't you see both Kluber and Kazmir? Kaz is on 3 days rest so most likely will be very limited. Better lefty option out of the pen IMO than Hill though. Kluber on full rest should be up stretching out when Salazar throws the first pitch IMO. Be ready to come in at a moments notice. Same with Masterson unless he's being used as the closer.

I could Kluber or Kazmir... but not both..

Agree, no real surprises.

Going to be intersting to see who gets bumped if the Tribe wins tonight. Ubaldo obviously gets added...does McAllister? I don't see him a pen guy personally.

Best guess is maybe Ramirez over Carson is removed for Ubaldo?
