The Cleveland Indians today announced they have recalled right-handed pitcher Chen-Chang Lee from Triple-A Columbus and have optioned right-handed pitcher Vinnie Pestano to Columbus. They have also recalled right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer from Columbus for today’s doubleheader against the San Diego Padres.

Lee, 27, will be making his second stint at the Major League level in 2014, spending one day with the club on April 2 as the “26th man”.  He has made two relief appearances for Columbus thus far, going 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA (2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R/ER, 1 BB, 4 K, .100 AVG).

Pestano posted a 13.50 ERA in three relief appearances for Cleveland (2.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R/4ER, 1 BB, 4 K) after opening the season on the Major League roster.

Bauer, 23, has made one start for the Clippers since his March 24 option out of spring training, going 6.0 innings on April 4 vs. Indianapolis in Huntington Park (ND, 6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 9 K, .100 AVG). Trevor will start Game 2 of today’s doubleheader vs. San Diego and will be optioned back to Columbus after the game.

Would be surprised if Lee isn't back in AAA once Bourn is ready to come off the DL. Thought Pestano (or Wood) would get the boot.

Might be the reason they signed Mark Lowe. What kind of injury does Bryan Price has? I see he is on 7 day DL. Adams may get his chance soon.

On another issue I think Hermann has the most upside of the three pitchers released at the end of spring training so am glad he is still part of the organization.

Interestingly, Pestano is optioned out for a guy who is just like him in Lee. Same kind of sidearm slot, good fastball zip, and a good slider. Unless injuries force their hand of Lee is just brutal, the Indians would be wise to give Lee an extended look. Blake Wood is now next on the chopping block.

Hope Pestano can figure it out.

I can't wait to see Lee actually hopefully get a couple consistent months with the Tribe to see what he can do.
