The Indians announced several roster decisions today in addition to the announcement of their 2013 Major League coaching staff and the option decisions on Travis Hafner, Ubaldo Jimenez, and Roberto Hernandez.
The club announced that right-handed pitcher Kevin Slowey and outfielder Vinny Rottino have been designated for assignment, cleared waivers, and have been outrighted to Triple-A Columbus. The Indians also designated left-handed reliever Scott Maine for assignment, but he did not clear waivers as the Toronto Blue Jays claimed him and have added him to their 40-man roster.
This is the first outright assignment for Slowey, so he has no choice but to accept his assignment to the minors for the 2013 season. This is the second outright assignment for Rottino, so he can either choose to accept the assignment or choose to become a free agent.
With the removal of Rottino, Maine, and Slowey along with the options for Hafner and Hernandez being declined earlier in the day, the Indians 40-man roster currently stands at 38 players (including Nick Hagadone who is on the restricted list still).
