BOWLING GREEN, KY - It was déjà vu for the Lake County Captains (16-32) and Bowling Green Hot Rods (22-25) on Friday night as the Hot Rods took game two of the series by a score of 5-0. Both games so far have gone to the Hot Rods 5-0. The game featured a pitcher’s duel until the Hot Rods pulled away in the bottom of the eighth.

Jordan Milbrath held Bowling Green scoreless and hitless until the fourth inning when they scored a run. Shortstop Juniel Querecuto led off with a single and stole second base. Second baseman Pat Blair walked, but was erased by a double play. Querecuto advanced to third base on the double play. With Querecuto on third, Milbrath threw a wild pitch to bring home Querecuto.

Milbrath took the loss, despite allowing only one run on one hit in five innings. He walked two and did not strike out a batter. His piggyback partner, Caleb Hamrick entered for the sixth.

Blake Snell held the Captains at bay with seven shutout innings on four hits and two walks. Snell struck out nine Captains batters throughout seven innings. Stone Speer closed out the game with two scoreless innings in relief.

In the eighth inning, the Hot Rods opened the lead to five runs with a four spot. Catcher Oscar Hernandez doubled to start the inning and scored on a RBI double by right fielder Ariel Soriano. Soriano scored on a safety squeeze bunt by first baseman Alexander Simon. Querecuto singled home a run before Hamrick left the game.

Ben Heller came into a one-out, two on situation. Heller struck out the next batter, but threw a wild pitch to bring home the final run.

Hamrick was charged with four runs allowed on five hits in two and one third innings. He walked one and fanned three batters. Heller threw two thirds of a scoreless inning.

The Captains’ offense stalled again on Friday night. After only getting three hits on Thursday, Lake County had four hits on the night. Four different players had the hits with right fielder Cody Ferrell having the only extra-base hit.

Lake County will look to avoid the sweep on Saturday night. RHP Adam Plutko (2-1, 4.08) will pitch for the Captains and the Hot Rods will counter with RHP Jake Faria (3-2, 3.24). First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
