Second baseman Mason Katzcleared the bases with a three-run double to center field.

After the end of the first inning, home-plate umpire Adrian Gonzalez called for the tarp as the skies opened up. The game was delayed for 27 minutes.

Former Cleveland Indians minor leaguer Juan Herrera reached on a fielder’s choice in the second inning. Herrera stole second base and scored on a fielding error by shortstop Dorssys Paulino.

The Captains gained a run back in the bottom half of the inning. The first two batters reached before right fielder Josh McAdams singled home a run.

Lake County loaded the bases in the third inning but could not muster a run across the plate. McAdams was called out on strikes to end the third inning and was ejected from the game.

In the fourth inning, Peoria opened up a five run lead over the Captains. McElroy led off with a single, his third of the night, and he moved to second on an error by third baseman Grant Fink. A single by Kelly moved him to third and a groundout by Castillo scored him.

Chiefs’ starter Alex Reyes, rated the No. 7 Cardinals prospect by Baseball America, allowed one run on two hits and five walks with five strikeouts in three innings. Kevin Herget entered in the fourth inning for the visitors.

Aviles kept the Captains in the game with four solid innings of relief. He surrendered one run on four hits before making way for lefty Wander Beras.

The Chiefs added three more insurance runs in the eighth inning to distance themselves from the Captains. The eighth Captains error of the game and Fink’s second error allowed a run to score.
