AKRON, OH - Jordan Smith's two-run triple highlighted a four-run first inning that led to Akron's win in Sunday afternoon's game between the RubberDucks and the Fisher Cats. The victory gave the RubberDucks back-to-back series wins on their six-game home stand this week.

Duke von Schamann was stellar in his start, as he allowed just two earned runs on four hits in seven innings pitched. It was the right hander's fourth straight win and his fifth consecutive quality start.

"Anytime I can go seven innings with no walks and get them to swing I'm happy with it." said von Schamann.

New Hampshire's Jack Murphy hit a solo shot and doubled off of von Schamann. Melky Mesa was the Fisher Cats only other hitter with an extra-base hit against Akron's starter.

"It was hard at the start of the game" von Schamann stated. "I've never pitched against these guys before so I didn't really know what they excelled at and what they couldn't hit. Earlier in the game I threw a changeup to a guy that was looking for a changeup and he hit it for a home run. Later in the game the same thing happened, I threw offspeed when I should have thrown a fastball. Luckily my next start is against these guys so I feel confident pitching against them next start."

RubberDucks catcher Alex Lavisky extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a RBI single in the first inning. The St. Ed's product went 2-for-4 with a couple of base hits. Lavisky is hitting .371 (13-for-35) during this stretch.

"I haven't done anything too crazy," said the 23-year-old. "I think I'm being patient at the plate and not just swinging at the first pitches. Although I'm being aggressive early, I feel like I'm waiting and working counts, laying off some tough pitches in the dirt and getting some good pitches over the plate that I can hit up the middle. It keeps me away from being pull-happy, and that's right where I want to be."

"This is a great opportunity for Alex, who hasn't had a chance to get everyday at-bats yet this year," manager David Wallace said. "He's doing a great job behind the plate and produced for us offensively as well."

Anthony Gallas drove in three runs after getting Saturday night off. With Erik Gonzalez getting the day off, Jaime Pedroza had his best game as a RubberDuck, singling three times and scoring three runs as well.

"We're going to be relying big on both of those guys, Gallas and Gonzalez, as well as Jaime for this homestretch," Wallace said. "We want to keep everybody as fresh as we can, it's been a long season and everybody's worked their tails off to get to this point. Naturally you're going to wear down a little bit, so we're just trying to keep everybody fresh."

The RubberDucks (66-56) have the day off Monday before a three-game road series with the Portland Sea Dogs (75-47) starting Tuesday. Akron will send RHP Joseph Colon (8-6, 3.20) and LHP Brian Johnson (9-2, 1.89) will be on the hill for the Sea Dogs.
