AKRON - In a back and forth affair, the Bowie Baysox took advantage of late inning mistakes by the Aeros, trouncing them 13-5.

The Aeros got down to business in the bottom of the first inning, starting with Aeros’ second baseman Jose Rodriguez who lined a single to right and subsequently stole second and third base for his fourth and fifth stolen bases of the season. After Aeros’ DH Chun Chen walked, first baseman Jesus Aguilar grounded out, but brought in Rodriguez for the first run of the game.

The Baysox struck back in the fourth with a double from centerfielder Kyle Hudson, followed by a single by catcher Luis Martinez, to get tie the game at 1-1.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Akron catcher Chris Wallace doubled and shortstop Ronny Rodriguez brought him home in the very next at bat, giving the Aeros a 2-1 lead.

Akron added another run in the bottom of the fifth on a single from Aguilar, again scoring Rodriguez and extending the Akron lead to 3-1.

In the top of the 6th, the Bowie bats started to wake up. With two outs in the inning, Baysox’ third baseman Ty Kelly reached second base on a fielding error by Akron left fielder Delvi Cid. After a walk to Martinez, Baysox second baseman Buck Britton lined a run scoring single. With Bowie rightfielder Henry Urrutia at bat, Aeros’ pitcher Austin Adams threw a wild pitch allowing Martinez and Britton to move to second and third base. Urrutia then singled to left, scoring both, to give the Baysox a 4-3 lead.

The Baysox put up a couple more runs in the seventh thanks to some bad Aeros pitching. After Adams walked two straight batters, Aeros’ reliever Shawn Armstrong came in relief but walked the third straight batter of the inning giving the Baysox the bases loaded with one out. The next batter, Martinez, lined a single to center scoring two and extending the Baysox lead to 6-3.

Of course, as was the course of this back and forth battle, the Aeros were right back at it in the bottom of the inning. After back to back walks to Holt and Ramirez, Aguilar took a pitch off the wall in left center for a double scoring both and bringing the Aeros back to within a run at 6-5.

Bowie took advantage of some errant Aeros fielding in the top of the eighth. With men on first and second thanks to errors by Rodriguez and Ramirez, Baysox left fielder Xavier Avery then walked loading the bases for Kyle Hudson. Hudson singled, scoring two, and stole second, leaving men on second and third for Kelly. Kelly roped a double, scoring Hudson and Avery, and extended the Baysox lead 10-5. After Kelly was moved over on a flyout by Martinez, another error, this time by Urshela, allowed Kelly to score and Britton to get to first. Urrutia then doubled, bringing home Britton and making the game 12-5. In the very next at bat, Baysox first baseman Aaron Baker singled to right, bringing in Urrutia from second.

The Baysox scored 7 in the eighth inning making the score 13-5, and essentially secured the win for Bowie.

The Aeros fall to 5-10 while Baysox improves to 9-7. The Aeros are slated to start Danny Salazar on Saturday afternoon against Baysox starter Jacob Pettit.  First pitch from Canal Park will be at 2:05 pm.
