CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With cold bats coming after a hour-long rain delay, Ryan Rohlinger stepped up to the plate in the fifth inning. Rohlinger took starting pitcher Deunte Heath's offering deep into left field to score the Clippers' first run of the night.

The Columbus Clippers dropped their first game of the away series with Charlotte Monday night, 4-2. With a 2-1 series lead, Columbus is set to have a chance to take this one Tuesday afternoon.

The starting pitcher for Columbus, Tyler Cloyd, started his night off rough. It was the first inning and Cloyd gave up a big fly with two outs to give Charlotte an early 1-0 lead.

Continuing into the second, with no run support Cloyd put a runner on with a wild pitch. Charlotte continued to roll firing a line drive out to center fielder Tyler Holt to put runners on first and second. Just like that the Knights furthered their lead with another hard hit single out to center field, bringing home their second run of the night.

Cloyd righted the ship for the next three innings, before letting up his second homer of the game in the sixth and being pulled. The righty ultimately went 5.1 with five hits and three runs.

Southpaw Scott Barnes was called to the mound and let up one hit before escaping the sixth.

Columbus' offense made another appearance in the top of the seventh after Rohlinger made it on base after being drilled by a pitch. With two outs Holt came up with his only hit of the night, doubling out to right field to bring Rohlinger in to score his second run of the night.

After closing in on the Knights' lead making it 3-2, Charlotte came back in the eighth. C.C. Lee took the bump in the eighth, letting up a single to the Knights' lead off hitter. With no outs another runner made it onto the bases on a fielding error by shortstop Justin Sellers, his sixteenth of the season. Lee followed up letting a fly ball out to center, to bring Charlotte's fourth run of the night in to score.

With the Clippers unable to make a two run rally in the ninth Cloyd earned his fourth loss of the season.

Columbus' loss Monday night drops it to a 31-33 record and leaves the Clippers sitting in third place in the International League West.

The Clippers are set to wrap up a nine game away trip with a midday game Tuesday before heading back to the familiar walls of Huntington Park. The Clippers are scheduled to face off against the Scranton Rail Riders for their first series home.
