TOLEDO, OH - The Columbus Clippers (70-58) beat the Toledo Mud Hens (62-66) 4-2 Saturday night. Toledo slowed down Columbus through eight innings, but the Clippers rallied for three runs in the ninth to beat the Mud Hens. The Clippers extended their winning streak to five games and maintain a six-game division lead.

Kevin Whelan (2-2, 2.45 ERA) allowed the rally and blew the save for Toledo. Shaun Marcum (1-0, 2.57 ERA) became the pitcher of record with the rally. Austin Adams closed out the ninth for his fifth save.

Neither starter received a decision in the game. Zach McAllister (6-1, 1.95 ERA) had a streak of six straight quality starts and extended it to seven. He went allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Mike Belfiore (5-5, 3.10 ERA) was even better for Toledo. He went six innings and allowed one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The scoring started via the home run ball and appropriately so off the bat of the International League all-time home run king. Mike Hessman hit a solo shot in the second to give Toledo a 1-0 lead.

Luke Carlin, one of the three catchers for Columbus who were all in the lineup for the Clippers, tied the game in the third. He hit a one-out homer to knot the game at one.

Toledo retook the lead with a RBI single by Andy Dirks in the fifth.

The Clippers offense went silent until the ninth.

A lead-off walk by Elliot Johnson and single by Matt Carson had the tying run 90 feet away with no outs in the ninth. A walk by Chris Wallace loaded the bases. A one-out Carlin double unloaded them. He drove a three-run double to left-center and drove in the tying and go-ahead runs. He went 3-for-4 and finished a triple shy of the cycle.

The Clippers and Mud Hens wrap up the series Sunday. First pitch in Toledo is 6 p.m. Sunday.
