Clippers get wild in extras, lose 3-2

Buffalo- The Buffalo Bisons took the second game of the series against the Columbus Clippers after ten innings, winning 3-2.  The Columbus Clippers started LHP David Huff (3-1) as the Buffalo Bisons started RHP Jenrry Mejia (1-0).

The Clippers jumped ahead early as left fielder Matt LaPorta connected in the second inning for his fourteenth homer of the season to put them up 1-0.

Down one run with a runner on base, in the third inning center fielder Corey Wimberly took Huff deep to give the Bisons a 2-1 lead after three innings. 

Second basemen Cord Phelps evened things up for Columbus in the fourth inning when he hit a sacrifice fly to Wimberly to score shortstop Jason Donald.

Despite Huff’s brilliant eight innings where he allowed two runs on three hits and had six strikeouts, the offense was unable to execute and the game was forced into extra innings.

The Clippers elected to bring in right-hander Hector Ambriz to pitch in the tenth inning.  First basemen Josh Satin hit a ground rule double to lead off the inning and the next batter advanced him to third base on a ground ball hit to second base.

With one out, and Satin sitting on third, Ambriz threw a wild pitch to allow the winning run to cross home plate and end the game. 

The series wraps up on Thursday with a 10:35am game and the Bisons holding a 2-0 series lead.
