LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Clippers came out swinging, throwing two on the board early in the first inning Saturday. Unfortunately, starting pitcher Brett Brach let in five runs in in just 0.2 innings of work as the Louisville Bats jumped out to a 6-2 lead.

Columbus ultimately fell to Louisville 12-4, ending its losing series with the bats.

After coming out to a rough start, Brach was replaced by Toru Murata. Murata gave up one run before ending the inning.

Louisville kept it coming in the third, after loading the bases Murata gave up three more runs on a single and a double.

Down 9-2 the Clippers had no chance to rally before the Bats were back on the board in the fifth. Murata gave up two doubles and a big fly to right, tacking on three more runs for Louisville.

Lefty Mike Zagurski replaced Murata in the sixth after pitching 4.1 innings and giving up nine hits and six earned runs while striking out four batters. Zagurski kept the final three innings scoreless with a single hit and one walk while striking out four.

Columbus made a one last late rally in the seventh, but it was too little too late. Roberto Perez made it on base with a single to right field and was brought in by a homer by Rohlinger, his first if the season. Rohlinger racked up two RBIs in the Clippers’ defeat.

With Columbus' loss to Louisville the Clippers are 2-7 to kick off the season. The Clippers are scheduled to continue on their road trip to Indianapolis, Ind., for a series before facing Toledo in a short two-game series.
