Clippers clobber Chief, 9-6

Syracuse- The Columbus Clippers topped the Syracuse Chiefs Friday night 9-6 after stringing together nine runs on twelve hits.

Columbus started LHP David Huff (3-1) picked up the win for the Clippers in Fridays game, and the Chiefs countered with LHP John Lannan (3-5).

Centerfielder Jason Donald lead off the game in strong fashion hitting a leadoff homerun to give the Clippers the early lead.

It took Syracuse until the second inning to respond, but right fielder Brett Carroll doubled on a line drive to left field allowing catcher Jhonatan Solano to score.  Then later in the inning, on a fielder choice hit by second basemen Seth Bynum another run crossed home to put the Chiefs up 2-1.

Carroll put his stamp on the game in the bottom half of the fourth after he hit his second homerun of the season to center field.

The Clippers made their come back in the sixth inning putting together five runs.  Shortstop Gregorio Petit hit a solo home run to center field.  Then to add to the long ball festivities, DH Jared Goedert hit a grand slam to put the Clips in the lead 6-3.

Columbus tacked on another pair of runs in the seventh lead by a long ball hit by catcher Matt Pagnozzi, and an RBI double hit by third basemen Lonnie Chisenhall.

For the Chiefs, Carrol helped out again in the bottom of the seventh hitting a sacrifice fly, which helped produce a run.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Syracuse made an attempt to comeback after their power hitter Corey Brown hit a two run homerun to bring them within two of the Clippers.

These two teams will square up again on Saturday at 7 PM EST in Syracuse.
