NORFOLK, VA – The Columbus Clippers (10-12) used three home runs to power past the Norfolk Tides (7-16) beating them 6-2, on Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Audy Ciriaco hit a three-run blast in the sixth inning to break the game open.  It was his first homer of the year.

Carlos Moncrief led the inning off with a single, and then stole second and third before scoring on the home run.

Ciriaco made Norfolk pitcher Eddie Gamboa (0-2), who took the loss, pay for intentionally walking the previous hitter, Roberto Perez. Perez was walked after Moncrief stole third.  The two stolen bases raised his total for the year to three in four attempts.

Ciriaco has had quite a two-game stretch between Friday night’s game against Gwinnett and Sunday afternoon’s game versus Norfolk.  His average is up to .276 going 5-8 with a home run, double and three RBI.

Moncrief and Perez also homered in a three-run second inning.

For Moncrief, his home run to right was his first of the season.  In his first 13 games this season dating back to April 19, Moncrief batted .163 with two RBI.  Over the last six games, Moncrief has hit at a .421 clip, and driven in three runs.

The most home runs that Perez has ever hit in a season before this year was six, back in 2010, with Lake County.  Perez’s home run in the second, a two-run shot to left-centerfield, drove in Tim Fedroff. This season, Perez has four home runs on the season and has driven in 11 runs.

Trevor Bauer (3-0) started for the Clippers and picked up the win.  He coasted through the first two innings, only allowing a walk to the Henry Urrutia, the third batter of the game.

Bauer ran into trouble in the third allowing a couple of hits: an Alexi Casilla double and a single from Quinton Berry with one out.

After Berry stole second, Bauer used his defense to avoid any damage.  Audy Ciriaco caught a pop foul against the wall by the tarp off the bat of former Clipper Cord Phelps. Urrutia grounded out to Justin Sellers at short to end the inning.

Bauer was not so fortunate in the fourth. Xavier Paul hit a two-run home run to right, his second of the year.  Paul played in the majors from 2009-2013 with the Dodgers, Pirates and Reds.  It was the first homer given up by Bauer this season, including the start he made with the Cleveland Indians.

The two runs that scored on the play are also more runs than he has given up in any one start in his five this season with Cleveland and Columbus. Bauer was otherwise excellent.  He set season-highs in innings (7) and pitches (106) and after the home run, found very little resistance from the Norfolk offense.

Nick Hagadone and Austin Adams pitched the final two innings, and did not allow a run.  After a rough start to the season, Hagadone has pitched well over his last three appearances hurling 4.2 scoreless innings and eight strikeouts. Likewise, Adams has recorded three consecutive appearances without a run over three innings.

The Clippers and Tides will meet for the third of their four-game set on Monday night at 6:35 PM.  Columbus will start T.J. House (1-1, 2.08), who is coming off a strong start on Wednesday night against the Gwinnett Braves, where he allowed one run over 6.1 innings in a no decision.  Norfolk will counter with Suk-min Yoon (0-3, 6.75), who is making his fifth start of the year.
