Toledo- The Clippers cold bats cost them their last away game Saturday night when the Toledo Mudhens trampled Columbus, 4-1. The Clippers narrowly missed being shutout, but could not compensate for the early runs allowed.

The Mudhens wasted no time jumping on starting pitcher Paolo Espino in the first inning. With one out Espino let up a two run homer out to left field, putting Toledo up 2-0.

Espino settled down pitching two good innings, but fell short in the fourth. Toledo put two runners on base, one thanks to being hit by Espino. A sacrifice fly moved the runners over to third and second and both scored thanks to a single during the next at bat.

Down 4-0, Espino continued pitching into the sixth inning before being replaced by Preston Guilmet and earning himself the loss. Guilmet remained in the game for a single inning, facing three batters.

Clay Rapada was called in from the bullpen to start out the eighth and kept the Mudhens off the board.

Facing a possible shutout the Clippers came into the ninth swinging. Matt LaPorta led off the inning with a big fly out to left field to score Columbus’ first and only run of the game.

The Mudhen’s took both wins from the Clippers at Fifth Third Field during their two game away series. Both teams will travel to Huntington Park to finish out the season with two final games.

Josh Tomlin will take the mound Sunday against Toledo starter Jair Jurrjens while TJ House is projected to pitch the final game Monday evening against Jon Link.
