COLUMBUS - The Clippers took an early jump on the Louisville Bats, but were overtaken by the Bat’s late in Columbus’ starters outing. Columbus Ultimately fell to the Bat’s in their first game of the series, 2-1.

The Clippers made the first move onto the board in the second inning. Jeremy Hermida led off the inning with a swift hit to centerfield making his way to first. With one out Matt Carson pitted one in left field moving Hermida to third, and landing on second. Nate Spears hit an infield grounder and was thrown out at first, but Hermida made his way home for the Clippers first run.

Louisville and their bullpen kept Columbus’  bats silent for the remainder of the night. The Clipper’s offense were only able to muster five hits Monday night, two of which came off of Chun-Hsiu Chen’s bat.

Paolo Espino started on the mound for the Clippers, keeping the game scoreless and allowing two hits up until the seventh inning.

Espino came into the seventh inning to continue facing the Bats, but began to struggle. Louisville third baseman Neftali Soto stepped up to the plate hitting a towering fly out to left field for a solo homerun.

Louisville immediately took the lead breaking the tie with the next at bat. Felix Perez came up to bat behind Soto. Perez followed suit sending a homer out to right field to take the lead, 2-1.

Blake Wood came in from the bullpen to replace Espino after two outs in the seventh. Wood Pitched a full inning before Vinnie Pestano came in for the final out in the bottom of the eighth.

The Clippers will remain in Louisville for one more game Tuesday night before returning to Huntington Park with Louisville for a two game series.
