NILES, OH - Best way to celebrate a victory? With fireworks of course! The Mahoning Valley Scrappers took on the Connecticut Tigers with a well-played game ending with a win and fireworks display to just add to the excitement in the stands.

The Scrappers certainly had their A game on when they played the Tigers ending the game with a score of 9-2.

At the top of the first inning the Scrappers had quick and easy three outs which took them into the bottom of the first. Steven Patterson found a gap on the field by hitting between second and short stop getting a single. Francisco Mejia hit a fly ball out between left and center bringing in Patterson for the first run and getting him a double. Josh McAdams hit out to left field advancing Mejia to third and getting him a single.

Bradley Zimmer at the bottom of the third had a nice shot down the first base line making the a Tigers first baseman dive getting him a single, Francisco Mejia hit between second and first getting a double and advancing Zimmer to third.

Out in left field Josh McAdams had a nice catch at the top of the fourth. The Scrappers go into the bottom of the fourth in the lead by one. Martin Cervenka leads off with a hit dead straight in the center of the field making it through the pitcher and short stop getting a single. With teammates on second and third, Greg Allen, hit a ground ball in the gap on the field and made it through the infield giving him a single and bringing in two more runs for the Scrappers. He did not stop there either, he proceeded to steal second.

Steven Patterson hit a ball to the short stop who cleanly fielded the ball but ended up making a wild through advancing him to second and bringing in Allen tacking on another run. Runners at first and second, Francisco Mejia hit a ball to the first baseman for the Tigers who attempted to toss to the pitcher but were to slow and Mejia made it to first by a step and also loaded the bases. Leo Castillo steps up and hits a double bringing in his three teammates adding three runs making the score 7-0.

After having a grand slam the previous game and hit phenomenally during this game manager Ted Kubiak had nothing but positive feedback about Leo Castillo's hitting the past few games "Leo's hot right now. He's in his zone I guess you can say".

At the top of the sixth right fielder Greg Allen had a diving save to keep the ball from going any farther behind him only giving the Tigers one base. A ball hit to second baseman Steven Patterson led to a double play with a toss to short stop Yonathan Mendoza who was covering second then a throw to first baseman Leo Castillo gave the Scrappers two outs.

With a runner on first, at the bottom of the sixth, Leo Castillo hit a ball out to center. The center fielder miss judged the closeness of the ball and ended up being too far ahead which led to the ball making it all the way out to the fence bringing in a run for the Scrappers and giving  Castillo a triple. Martin Cervenka hit a ground ball to second and sacrificed himself to bring in another run for his team. The score was 9-0 going into the seventh inning.

Second baseman Steven Patterson makes an unbelievable catch by jumping in the air making a fantastic out at the top of the seventh.

At the top of the eighth and bases loaded the Tigers hitter hits the ball out to center fielder Bradley Zimmer getting the Tigers a run.  A ball hit out to left brings in another run for the Tigers.

The ninth inning roles around the Scrappers cut that inning short by maintaining their lead and ended the game with a score of 9-2.

The Scrappers are set to play July 19, 2014 at the Eastwood field in Niles, Ohio.
