(Eastlake, OH)- Carlos Ramirez tripled home D.J. Davis in the top half of the fourth inning to add an insurance run en route to a 8-2 Lugnuts victory. Ramirez later scored in the inning on a ground out. Lansing led 7-1 after four innings. The defeat was the Captains first on opening day in seven years, and the first since joining the Midwest League.

Lansing began the season by scoring a run in the opening frame. Dickey Joe Thon singled and scored on double from Mitch Nay. The Lugnuts led 1-0.Lansing added to the lead in the second inning. With two outs and a runner at third base, D.J. Davis doubled and the score was 2-0.

In the third, Lansing scored three more and took command 5-0. Jorge Saez got the big hit of the inning a two run single with two outs to extend the lead. Lansing won the season series against the Captains in 2013, 12 games to nine. Lansing also holds the lead in the overall series 36-33 with the win.

Eric Haase homered to right center field to get the Captains on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as the score was 7-1. Lansing scored in the top of the fifth inning. Matt Dean singled, Joge Saez doubled him to third and Davis hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 8-1.

Nellie Rodriguez hit an opposite field homerun to right field and the lead was cut to 8-2. The Captains had two homeruns on the night. The final was 8-2.

RHP Dace Kime (0-1, 13.50) started for the Captains and took the loss. Kime pitched three and one third innings, allowing eight hits, six runs, five were earned, he walked two and struck out three. Alexis Paredes entered in relief and pitched two and two third innings. Paredes allowed three hits, two earned runs, one walk and he struck out two. Wander Beras pitched one and two third innings of relief and only walked one while fanning two. Trevor Frank pitched the final inning and one third. Frank pitched scoreless ball and retired two on strikes.

LHP Jario Labourt (0-0, 2.70) started the ballgame for the Lugnuts and did not get the decision. Labourt pitched three and one third inning and allowed two hits, one earned run, four walks and four strikeouts. Labourt allowed the homerun to Haase. Brady Dragmire (1-0) pitched one and two thirds innings of scoreless baseball to earn the win. Dragmire allowed one hit and struck out two. Alberto Tirado pitched the final four innings for Lansing. Tirado allowed five hits, he walked one and struck out seven and allowed one run on a Nellie Rodriguez homerun. Tirado earned the save, his first of the season.

The Captains will continue the opening series with a double header on Saturday April 5th vs. the Lansing Lugnuts. The Captains will give the ball to RHP Caleb Hamrick (0-0, 0.00) in game one and RHP Jordan Milbrath (0-0,0.00). Lansing will counter with RHP Chase De Jong (0-0, 0.00) in game one and RHP Jeremy Gabryszwski (0-0, 0.00) in game two. First Pitch is at 1:00 PM From Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.
