EASTLAKE, OH - The Lake County Captains (23-40) fell to the Dayton Dragons (32-29) Sunday afternoon by the score of 4-2. The game's first pitch was originally scheduled for 1:30 PM, but due to a prolonged rain delay, the game did not actually start until 2:04 PM. Paid attendance was 2,085.

The Captains started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning off of Dragon starter Ismael Guillon (4-0, 2.79). First baseman Nellie Rodriguez led off the inning with a single to left field. After consecutive fly outs by left fielder Dorssys Paulino and right fielder Logan Vick, catcher Richard Stock got the Captains on the board with a RBI double to left that drove in Rodriguez.

However, the Captains' lead did not last long. In the top of the fourth inning, Lake County starter Dace Kime (0-9, 6.12) walked Daniel Pigott with one out in the inning. After a single by Gabriel Rosa, designated hitter Avain Rachal drove in Pigott and Rosa with a two-run double to left. The Dragons scored their third and final run of the inning when Rachal stole third base and advanced home on a throwing error by Stock.

Dayton added to its lead in the top of the fifth inning. Second baseman Jamodrick McGruder led off the frame with a triple. Left fielder Sebastian Elizalde then promptly followed McGruder with a RBI single to right, which increased Dayton's lead to 4-1.

Lake County managed to cut into Dayton's lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. After consecutive singles by Paul Hendrix and Rodriguez, Paulino hit into a fielder's choice that drove in Lake County's second run. The Captains kept the pressure on after Logan Vick walked, which moved Paulino into scoring position. However, Stock popped out to shortstop Carlton Daal and Ivan Castillo lined out to third baseman Tanner Rahier, which ended the threat.

Lake County failed to score the rest of the afternoon.

Kime, looking for his first win of the season, had difficulty locating his pitches much of the afternoon. He pitched five and two thirds innings, allowed six hits, four runs, three earned runs, six walks, and two strikeouts. He was relieved in the top of the sixth inning by Alexis Paredes, who pitched the final three and a third innings without yielding a run.

Although the weather was far from ideal, Captains manager Mark Budzinski did not believe the conditions were to blame for Kime's wildness, "I didn't think it had a whole lot to do with the weather. It obviously got a little bit wet, but we have played in worse."

Budzinski believed Kime pitched well, but ultimately could not overcome the Dragons' three run fourth inning, "One tough inning there where the ball was hit to right field on the ground. Our second baseman couldn't quite get to it and it kind of snowballed from there. Just one tough inning."

Guillon, a Midwest League All-Star who entered the game with opponents hitting only .173 against him, went seven strong innings for the win. He surrendered only four hits, one walk, and struck out eight.

The Captains and Dragons will complete their three-game series Monday night at 7:00 PM at Classic Park. The Captains will send LHP Luis Lugo (3-4, 4.96) to the mound while the Dragons will counter with Sal Romano (4-4, 3.00).
