Captains fall 7-4 to Fort Wayne
Loss puts Captains more than 20 games below .500 on season
The Captains fell 7-4 to Fort Wayne Tuesday night, bringing their record to 20-41 on the season. Fort Wayne is now 43-20 on the season.
The first inning was scoreless for both teams, but the Captains came out swinging in the second, scoring their first two runs of the game. Singles from catcher Jeremy Sever and infielder Eric Haase, who were brought home from outfielder Jorge Martinez’ double.
Fort Wayne came back quickly in the bottom of the second as the team scored three of its seven runs. A double, a missed catch from first baseman Joe Sever and an infield triple brought Fort Wayne to a 3-2 lead going into the third.
The third inning was another back and forth inning for both teams, with the Captains scoring one run and Fort Wayne answering with two. The fourth inning brought yet another run in for Fort Wayne, but nothing from Lake County.
The fifth inning didn’t bring any more action, but Fort Wayne scored their seventh and final run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Captains attempted to come back in the eighth, scoring their fourth run, but couldn’t bring anyone else around to home and fell to Fort Wayne 7-4.
The Captains take on Fort Wayne again on Wednesday, the game is scheduled for 7:05pm.
