EASTLAKE, OH - For the second-straight game, the Lake County Captains turned Classic Park into walk-off city as they won another game in their final at-bat. Lake County defeated the Fort Wayne Tincaps 7-6 on Tuesday afternoon.

Second baseman Claudio Bautista sent the matinee crowd of 1,742 fans home happy with a RBI single to left field to score designated hitter Anthony Santander from third.

After a 46-minute delay, the game got underway with RHP Mitch Brown pitching for the Captains (15-30) against RHP Coby Cowgill for the Tincaps (17-27).

Fort Wayne took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Center fielder Mallex Smith walked to open the game, stole second and third before scoring on a RBI double by designated hitter Dane Phillips.

The Tincaps added a run to their lead in the second. Left fielder Henry Charles lined a one-out triple to center field and scored on a groundout by shortstop Chase Jensen.

Lake County scored three runs to take the first lead of the game in the second. Third baseman Grant Fink singled and advanced to second on a single by Bautista. Right fielder Brian Ruiz singled back up the middle to score Fink. Smith committed a throwing error, one of four Tincaps errors on the day, and Bautista scored with Ruiz going to second. Shortstop Paul Hendrix singled home Ruiz for a 3-2 lead.

The Captains added to the lead in the third. First baseman Nellie Rodriguez singled and went to second on a throwing error. Then, Fink doubled home Rodriguez. Cowgill threw two wild pitches to score Fink.

Cowgill allowed five runs on seven hits in two and two thirds innings. He walked three and struck out two. Eric Yardley entered in relief.

Lake County took advantage of two Fort Wayne errors in the fourth to open a 6-2 lead.

Brown pitched five innings, with two runs allowed on Tuesday. He gave up two hits, four walks along with five strikeouts. Kerry Doane entered for the sixth.

Fort Wayne cut the lead to one against Doane as Charles ripped a three-run homerun to right field in the sixth inning. Charles’ first homerun of the year made it a 6-5 game.

Yardley gave up an unearned run on no hits in two and one third innings. Genison Reyes threw two scoreless innings to keep the Tincaps in the game.

Doane was charged with three runs on two hits in one inning. Matt Whitehouse came in for the seventh.

The Tincaps tied the game in the eighth inning. Whitehouse gave up three singles, including a RBI single to catcher Adolfo Reina.

In the ninth, Lake County put runners on the corners with one out before Bautista stepped to the plate with the game on the line.

Wilson Reyes took the loss for Fort Wayne allowing one run in one and one third innings of work. Whitehouse picked up the win with one run allowed in three innings. He gave up four hits and fanned one.

The Captains had twelve hits in the game compared to Fort Wayne’s seven. Bautista led the Captains with a four-hit game, all of which were singles. Left fielder Dorssys Paulino and Fink had two hits each.

The Captains will conclude a brief three-game home stand with Fort Wayne on Wednesday. In the finale of the series, Lake County will start RHP Robbie Aviles (0-1, 1.23) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Walker Weickel (1-5, 7.12). First Pitch is at 11:00 AM from Classic Park.
