Around The Farm: November 15, 2012

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Here is the rundown of what Cleveland players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Arizona Fall League

• Tyler Holt (CF): 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 SO, 1 CS. Holt continues to get on base at a decent clip out in Arizona (.353 OBP) with absolutely no power. Unless he wants to become Jordan Henry 2.0, Holt will need to show some extra-base ability at some point in 2013.
• Carlos Moncrief (RF): 0-for-3, 1 BB, 2 SO, 2 SB. The good news: Moncrief showed off his speed by stealing two bases last night. The bad news: Moncrief struck out for the 18th and 19th times in 11 games. Moncrief is as toolsy as they come, but he will need to work on his plate discipline if he hopes to harness that talent.
• Ronny Rodriguez (2B): 0-for-4, 3 SO. Everyone is entitled to a bad night every now and again, so we should not read too much into Rodriguez's terrible night. The key remains that Rodriguez is getting his feet wet against some tough competition and should be better off for it next year.

Dominican Winter League

• Jose Ramirez (2B): 0-for-1, 1 BB, 1 SAC. Ramirez went hitless for only the second time in his last 14 games, but he still found a way to get on base with a walk. There may not be much pop in Ramirez's bat (.042 ISO in the Winter League, .111 ISO in the regular season), but his performance this year and this offseason has certainly put him on the map.

Venezuelan Winter League

• Gregorio Petit (SS): 0-for-4, 1 SO. As has been written here before, there is little chance that Petit is brought back in 2013. Hopefully he is able to latch on with another team, though he will need better nights than this to accomplish that.
• Ezequiel Carrera (CF): 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 SB. Carrera made his offseason debut last night and did some typical Carrera things: reaching and then stealing bases. This offseason/Spring Training will be huge for the 25-year old, as he attempts to solidify himself as a real major league option.
