Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Cleveland prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Logan Vick (Lake County, RF) - 2-3, 1 2B, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 1 CS - Wow!  This was an outing that was easily the best one of the night in the org, and not just because of the lack of other superstar-level performances.  Getting on base three times out of four is impressive enough in itself.  Four RBI in a game is even more so.  Three RBI in one non-home run swing of the bat takes it to yet another level.  That three-run hit coming in the bottom of the ninth with the team down two runs raises this performance even higher.  If he keeps up this kind of play (both tonight and his other two games since being sent down), he will earn a second go at the High-A level sooner than later.

  • Roberto Perez (Columbus, C) - 1-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K,1 BB - Perez's lone hit of the game had a huge impact as his sixth inning single scored the eventual game-winning runs.
  • Carlos Moncrief (Columbus, RF) - 2-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI - Moncrief's first mutli-hit game in a week and a half.
  • Travis Banwart (Columbus, SP) - ND, 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R (earned), 3 BB, 5 K, 1 HR allowed - A solid outing, but too short to be eligible for the win.
  • J.C. Ramirez (Columbus, RP) - W (1-0), 2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB - Ramirez does a stellar job to get the game to the back end of the bullpen and pick up a much-deserved win.
  • Mark Lowe (Columbus, CP) - S (9), 1.1 IP, 3 K - Lowe comes in and shuts down the Knights to close out the game and pick up his ninth save of the Triple-A campaign.
  • Tyler Naquin (Akron, CF) - 2-4, 1 K - Naquin had the lone multi-hit night for the RubberDucks, who were shut out.
  • Joe Colon (Akron, SP) - L (5-3), 3.1 IP, 7 H, 7 R (4 earned), 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HBP - Not a great outing by Colon, but the defense didn't help either.
  • Giovanni Soto (Akron, RP) - 2 IP, 1 H, 2 K - Gio has a solid night in the baseball equivalent of garbage time.
  • Erik Gonzalez (Carolina, SS) - 1-5, 2 RBI, 1 K - Gonzalez now has 10 RBI in his last 10 games.
  • Jerrud Sabourin (Carolina, 1B) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI - The Undrafted Wonder has his third straight two-hit game and fourth in his last five.
  • Luigi Rodriguez (Carolina, CF) - 2-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB - Luigi's recent solid play continues as he is now batting .281/.410/.406 in his last 10 games as opposed to .229/.333/.347 on the season (34 games).
  • Clayton Cook (Carolina, RP) - L (0-2), 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R (all earned), 2 K,1 HR - Clayton Cook's return to meaningful baseball continues to be an uneven one, with most of his outings either remarkable good or really bad.  Hopefully the former become more common as his perfromances become more consistent.
  • Benny Suarez (Carolina, RP) - 1 IP, perfect, 1 K - Suarez provided a rare bright spot for the Mudcats pitching staff on the night.
  • Claudio Bautista (Lake County, SS) - 2-4, 1 BB - Bautista continues his recently improved form, batting .476 (10-for-21) in his last five games as opposed to .246 on the season (55 games).  Hopefully this hot streak develops into consistent solid performance from Claudio.
  • Nellie Rodriguez (Lake County, 1B) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 K - The kind of night it would be nice to see more from Nellie-Rod.
  • Robbie Aviles (Lake County, SP) - ND, 7.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R (all earned), 1 BB, 4 K - To give you an idea of how good Robbie's season has been thus far, this was one of his bad outings.
  • Trevor Frank (Lake County, RP) - W (3-2), 1.1 iP, perfect - Trevor sets down the last four Dragons batters in order to set the table for the Caps' dramatic ninth-inning comeback.

Naquin has a 9-game hitting streak in which he's batting .450 with five walks. If he can stay fairly hot for three more weeks he's a shoo-in for Hitter of the Month.

Nice to see Roberto Perez back in the lineup and picking up where he left off with the stick.
