Around the Farm: July 26 (The Perfect Game Edition)

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Justin Germano: SP, Columbus Clippers: W (1-2)***Perfect Game***9 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 7 K:

The Justin Germano story in 2011 is a complicated one. He started off as a part of the famed 'Bullpen Mafia' to start off the season, but after giving up eight runs in his 12 2/3 innings pitched, he was back to the minors by may 17th. Once back in Columbus, he started off exclusively in the bullpen, but with all the movement in the starting rotation, he was moved into the starting rotation with mixed results. Since July 6th, he's made four starts. The first start was a six-inning, two-hit, shutout. The second start was a five-inning, four hit, two run effort. The third start was a six inning, 12-hit, five-run effort. Then came tonight, and nothing could prepare anyone, including Germano, for what was about to happen. Germano dolled out perfection on the Syracuse Chiefs. It was the first perfect game in the International League since 2003, and the first perfect game, and sixth no-hitter in the history of the Columbus Clippers' organization. I doubt this outing will put Germano on the fast-track to Cleveland, but it doesn't take away from the great story. Congratulations to Justin Germano for perhaps the most outstanding pitching performance in the organization this season. Who'd have thunk it.

• Tim Fedroff: CF, Columbus: 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 K: There's a group of people that just don't buy into Timmy Fedroff because he doesn't appear to project as anything but a fourth outfielder. With that said, Fedroff has absolutely raked at the plate this season, and is really starting to heat up at Columbus. His ten-game line is .306/.432/.444. He was a homer away from the cycle last night.
• Cord Phelps: 2B, Columbus: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB: Phelps had been 0-for-6 in his last two games, but rebounded nicely tonight with a multi-hit game. He still has a nice ten game stat line of .324/.419/.432, so he's still putting up the right kind of numbers for a future major leaguer.
• Paul Phillips: C, Columbus: 3-5, 1 R: A nice day from a veteran catcher who had been in a massive slump. He was 1-for-19 in his last seven games.
• John Drennen: LF, Columbus: 2-4, 1 K: Drennen was the only player on the team with a multi-hit night, and continued a nice stretch of games. Over his past eight, he's had five multi-hit games.
• T.J. McFarland: SP, Columbus: L (7-5), 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R/1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K: McFarland has been one of the hottest pitchers in the organization, and he certainly didn't disappoint tonight, even with a loss. Over his last three starts, he's gone 2-1 over 15 innings pitched. He's given up 19 hits, six earned runs, four walks and 14 K's.
• Bryce Stowell: RP, Columbus: 2 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 2 K: Stowell struggled with control tonight in his second Akron appearance.
• Tyler Sturdevent: RP, Columbus: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 K: Sturdevent's 3.52 ERA at Akron is a bit misleading. He's given up six earned runs in two appearances, and nothing over his other seven. Tonight, he was dominant.
• Tyler Holt: CF, Kinston: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B: Holt was the only K-Triber with multiple hits, with two of Kinston's five total hits, and has his fifth multi-hit game in his last eight games.
• Brett Brach: SP, Kinston: L (6-7), 5 2/3 IP, 9 H, 8 R/7 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR: Brach has been extremely consistent this season, but this has been his third rough outing in a row.
• Trey Haley: RP, Kinston: 2 1/3 IP, 2 H, 1 R/ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR: Haley has yet to showcase the promise that his electric arm is capable of. There is a lot of ups in this 21-year-old.
