Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Dominican Winter League

Enosil Tejeda (Leones del Escogido, RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. This is a surprise. Tejeda made just two appearances all the way back in late October (1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R (2 ER), 0 BB, 1 K) but had not pitched in a game since. He popped back up in a game over two months later and in the playoffs to boot - though the 9-2 score in the 9th inning when he came in probably allowed for him to get some long overdue work with the game well in hand and a chance for Escogido to rest some of their top arms.

Carlos Santana (Leones del Escogido, 3B): 2-for-4, R, HR, RBI. Santana has turned things up a notch in the playoffs hitting three homers in 10 games. Overall, in 18 combined regular season and playoff games in the Dominican he is hitting .271 with 4 HR, 8 RBI and .813 OPS. He also has a nice 8:9 walk to strikeout ratio in 70 at bats. Also, the work he has done at third base appears to be enough right now where the Indians are going to continue the experiment this spring.

As far as the 3rd spot....agree with Tony here, Kipnis should hit leadoff instead of Bourn but he won't (barring injury/trade), and if he's not hitting leadoff he will be the #3 hitter.

This though is where I don't agree he should hit. Even if you don't hit him leadoff, doesn't make sense to bat him 3rd and Swisher 2nd unless you think Swisher is gonna have the higher OBP this year (possible).

I still say if Gomes comes out hitting like he did in 2013 then he should be hitting 5th at worst. Was one of our best hitters last year. I'm fine with him hitting lower last year and to start the year, easing the inexperienced guys in is never bad...but a guy that has 20 HR power and put up an OPS well over .800 last year doesn't belong in the 7th or 8th spot in this lineup...

I know lots like Brantley 5th...but Gomes actually had a higher batting average and a higher OBP than Brantley last year....was a better hitter, period. That said, less than 300 ABs for Gomes, remains to be seen if he can duplicate the season and do it for a full-season (I think he can)...

That's the problem they ran into last year as they don't have enough middle of the order type bats. Santana is the only true middle of the order guy. Kipnis should be leading off.....but they will stick with Bourn there and that means Kipnis hits 3rd. As to who hits 5th, it could be either Brantley or one of the Raburn/Murphy platoon.

It looks like the Indians have the #4 hitter in Carlos Santana. In order to protect Santana who should bat #3 and #5 for the Indians?
