Around the Farm: January 20, 2014
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.
Note: This may be the final Around the Farm until the minor league spring games start up in mid-March. Jesus Aguilar is officially finished playing winter ball and with just Carlos Santana playing on a nightly basis - probably only for another week - and only two or three other players still playing but seeing limited action, it makes sense to wrap this up. Depending on what happens in winter ball the next few nights and weeks we will update and post an article accordingly, but this should be the last regular Around the Farm posting for a while. Thanks for reading!
Dominican Winter League
Carlos Santana (Leones del Escogido, 3B): 0-for-2, K, 2 BB, R. Santana almost always finds a way to add offensive value even when he doesn't square the ball up. His on-base ability is special and that shows through no matter where he plays. Of course, the other note is that he played third base and made an error, his sixth of the season in very limited playing time. However, judging defense is an inherently challenging practice, and a spring training eye test is in order.
