Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE (LVBP) PLAYOFFS - DAY 11

Jesus Aguilar (Leones del Caracas, DH): 1-for-4.  Aguilar has an off night at the plate as he is held off the bases outside of a base hit in his first plate appearance.  Hopefully this is not the onset of another mini slump, as he has only seven games before the end of the Round Robin to get out of it.

Toru Murata (Caribes de Anzoategui, SP): W (1-0), 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R (earned), 1 BB, 2 K.  In his third playoff start, Toru picks up his first win of the postseason in dominating fashion.  This stat line was a welcome sight after his first two playoff appearances resulted in him allowing 6 ER on 10 H in 10.1 IP.

PUERTO RICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LBPRC) PLAYOFFS - DAY 9

Roberto Perez (Indios de Mayaguez, backup C): no plate appearances. There's not much to say about this effort as Roberto's 2014 playoff debut consisted entirely of catching one inning after coming in as a defensive replacement in the top of the 9th.

Tyler Sturdevant (Criollos de Caguas, RP): 0.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R (earned), 1 BB, 1 WP.  Sturdevant continues to perform poorly in the LBPRC playoffs as Sunday's troubles takes his numbers to 3 R (2 earned) on 4 H on 1.0+ IP of work.  I think it might be time for Tyler to return Stateside for a little R&R to recharge his batteries for the long North American season ahead.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM) PLAYOFFS - DAY 15

Carlos Santana (Leones del Escogido, starting 3B): 0-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 E. Santana has been remarkably consistent as of late in exhibiting good plate discipline.  Unfortunately, he has been almost as consistent in pairing that with an inability to actually put the bat on the ball when he does see a good pitch.  Hopefully he can carry the former over into Goodyear while straightening out the latter.  He needs to be getting RBI in ways other than bases-loaded walks.  In the field, Carlos picked up his fourth error of the playoffs on a fielding miscue in the seventh.

Again thanks for the link on WAR written by Jeff Ellis.

Just to make sure I understand it correctly. Jeff compared WAR Numbers between Kotchman and Fielder in which Casey had a 2.7 versus 2.1. So if Kotchman was injured for the year it would have cost the Indians 3 wins? Which means some else would have to make up that difference?

Secondly if you add up the war ratios on a 25 man roster you than can predict how many wins a MLB team could win for that the season? Or is WAR is used for the individual player only and not way to measure a team as whole.

Finally when reading the article I did not see what the formula is or what numbers to use to calculate players WAR ratio? Would like to how to compute a players WAR ratio.

Again Thanks!
