Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Venezuela Winter League

Jesus Aguilar (Leones del Caracas, 1B): 3-for-5, R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, K. Aguilar was at it again with his 13th homer of the offseason in the eighth inning helping jumpstart a Caracas comeback and send the game into extra innings. His .315 average, 13 homers and 37 RBI in 41 games this offseason are impressive, and the power he has shown this offseason brings hope that we are finally seeing him put it all together where he may finally have a big power breakout year at Triple-A Columbus next season. We can only hope because if he does he could be a nice bat the Indians can add to the roster in Cleveland sometime around the midpoint of the season next year or even before if injuries press him into action sooner than expected.

Puerto Rico Winter League

Roberto Perez (Indios de Mayaguez, C): 0-for-2, K. Perez had not played since December 1st when he was given his first start of the offseason, and in this one he was back to his customary role as a late inning defensive replacement. He is now just 2-for-16 at the plate in 12 games.

Brett Brach (Gigantes de Carolina, RP): 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. This was Brach’s first appearance since November 27th and only his seventh outing in Puerto Rico, but this was his best outing to date. He had it all going and was able to give his Carolina team some needed innings as the game went into extra innings.

Dominican Winter League

Andy Marte (Aguilas Cibaenas, 1B): 0-for-4. This January will mark the eight year anniversary of the Coco Crisp for Andy Marte and other pieces deal. While he is long gone from the Indians, seeing his name in the box score reminds me of all the promise he had when the Indians acquired him and then all the frustrations we all had when he played poorly when he was given a chance in Cleveland. This is but a cautionary tale to anyone banking on any Indians prospect to help the Indians this coming season as no matter how sure a thing they may be you just never know until they get to the big leagues and show what they can do. Amazingly, Marte is now 30 years old and is hitting .289 with 2 HR, 14 RBI and .796 OPS in 23 games in the Dominican this offseason. He has not played in the big leagues since 2010 with the Indians, and was out of affiliate ball in 2012 and most of 2013 before being picked up late this past season by the Dodgers for their Triple-A club.

i hope what aguilar is showing is real, but a little perspective is in order - he's 6th on HIS TEAM in OPS. he does have the most ABs, but ...

from what i can tell, the dimensions at his home park are 347 down the line and 385 in CF.

Yeah, the spike in homers is exactly what I wanted to see and I want to continue to see in Columbus next year. Considering that Huntington Park is a bandbox, if he spends most of the year there and doesn't have an ISO at least at .200 or above, it would be a disappointment.

Is the left field porch in Leones' home park like 250' or something? The homers from Jesus are incredible this winter.
