Around the Farm: December 30, 2013
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.
Venezuelan Winter League:
Jesus Aguilar (Leones del Caracas, DH): 2-for-5, 2 R, HR, RBI, 2 K. An absolutely torrid winter league season has inspired confidence far beyond his 2013 Akron production. Aguilar finishes with 18 home runs in 58 games with a slash line of .327/.403/.597 - which is an OPS of 1.000. The plate discipline was solid and the power impressive. A very positive offseason for Jesus and he can now go home and rest up and get ready for a big 2014.
Dominican Winter League:
Carlos Santana (Leones del Escogido, 3B): 0-for-4, K. Pretty ugly night offensively for Santana. The positive being that he did not make an error, of course there are other defensive questions which can’t be answered via a box score. As another note, Santana was pulled late in the game for a defensive replacement at third base. It looks like third base may very well still be in play for him during the playoffs, but in a more limited fashion.
