Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Note that the Dominican Winter League was off last night. Here is the rundown of what Cleveland players in fall and winter ball did yesterday:

Venezuelan Winter League

  • Asdrubal Cabrera (SS): 1-for-4, 1 BB. Cabrera has done pretty well in Venezuela this offseason, still holding a .300 average after last night. He faded down the stretch, so hopefully this winter ball work will get him in shape for 2013.
  • Ezequiel Carrera (LF): 0-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB. Nothing really new from Carrera last night, as he found his way on base and got a steal. Carrera will factor into the fourth outfielder race this spring and has done well enough for himself this winter.
  • Hector Rondon (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO. Rondon allowed a run in four straight outings before last night, but after a week off, he came back strong. Rebounding like this is encouraging, as despite his change of address, everyone should be rooting for Rondon's comeback story.

Puerto Rican Winter League

  • Roberto Perez (C): 2-for-3, 1 R, 1 2B. Perez launched his second extra-base hit of the winter last night, which is something. Only having two extra-base hits in 16 games is also something, though less positive. I love Perez's defense, but a little more pop would go a long way for him.

Australian Winter League

  • Andrew Campbell (LF): 1-for-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB. Campbell continued his impressive winter last night with his second home run of the season. If he can find a way to translate this level of production (.292/.365/.415) stateside in 2013, then he should avoid the roster bubble and turn some heads.
  • Ryan Battaglia (DH): 0-for-3, 2 BB, 1 SO. An oh-for night is not pretty, but Battaglia off-set it with the two walks. He also is having a decent season in Australia (.263/.364/.474) and needs to translate it back here this spring.
