Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here is the rundown of what Indians players in fall and winter ball did yesterday. Note, the Puerto Rican WInter and Australian Baseball Leagues were off on Monday and only one Dominican Winter League game was contested.

Venezuelan Winter League

  • Ezequiel Carrera (LF, Navegantes del Magallanes): 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI. Carrera has now hit .310 in 23 games this year. He's gone 27-for-87 overall while also hitting three doubles, one triple and two home runs.
  • Paolo Espino (SP, Caribes de Anzoategui): 2.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R/ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 5 K. Unfortunately, Espino had a very poor outing on Monday. All of the runs he allowed were earned, and he also allowed five home runs in less than three innings. It's a shame too because in his previous start, Espino allowed only one run in seven innings of work. After Monday's contest, his ERA has ballooned all the way to 6.00.

Asia Winter Baseball League

  • Chun Chen (China Red): 14 G, .317 AVG (13-for-41), 6 R, 2 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 4 BB, 10 K, .833 OPS. Chen has been playing quite regularly this winter for China Red of the Asia Winter Baseball League. He has done quite well in 14 games, and what is most encouraging is the fact that he has launched two home runs already, especially since he only hit five during the entire 2012 season. For Chen to move forward as a prospect, he will need to regain the previous power that he displayed, so his performance so far has to be a considered a major positive.
