Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)

Carlos Santana (Leones del Escogido, 3B): 0-for-3, 1 BB.  Santana has his first hitless night of the current LIDOM season, but still gets on base with his second walk of the season.  The real test, however, will be how he performs in the field at third base.  That will be hard to determine without actually watching him play.  Hopefully he plays in Thursday night's ballgame, which will be streamed on ESPN3 (6:30 PM EST).

Erik Gonzalez (Leones del Escogido, SS): 0-for-3, 1 K.  Gonzalez's strong LIDOM campaign hits a speed bump, but he is still performing well, with a .325 BA and 20 RBI in 45 winter league games.  The K:BB ratio, now at 47:3, however, is a concern. This is expected to be his final game.

VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE (LVBP)

Jesus Aguilar (Leones del Caracas, starting 1B): 2-for-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K.  Aguilar continues his solid winter season, picking up his 48th RBI in 49 games.  His slash now stands at .325/.394/.623 and he has hit 17 homers.  It will be interesting to see how he handles Triple-A pitching come April, but his performance in the LVBP gives a positive indication of his ability to hit veteran pitching. His stellar showing this offseason has put in squarely in the mix to be a player from the minors who could impact the Indians are some point in 2014 if the opportunity arises.

Carlos made a pretty sweet play in the bottom of the 8th, diving for a ball to his glove side, scooping it up neatly, and firing a strike to first. If that was the only play you saw him make, you'd be impressed. But, I've yet to see him make a play across his body (toward the third base line). Carlos also had a pretty sweet AB in the 9th, falling down 0-2 as the tying hitter, then battling back to draw a walk, putting the tying run on first. A more impatient hitter might have expanded the zone in an attempt to make something happen. Besides a bushy revolutionary beard, Carlos is wearing a an odd numero ciento siete on his jersey, They certainly have fun in the Caribbean!
