Around the Farm: April 9, 2012

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday's performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

T.J. House: SP, Carolina Mudcats: 7 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 9 K

House had a stellar start in his first outing of the season. This is his third year in the Carolina League and he is coming off a bit of a rough season as he struggled with some command issues last year at High-A Kinston. His strong start on Monday is a good way to kick off the season as a confidence booster, and hopefully he has addressed the former issues he’s had in his delivery. Considering he’s played at the same level for three seasons, he’ll be looking to make a formidable impression on the organization so he can move up quickly and be challenged at a new level.

LeVon Washington: LF, Lake County Captains: 3-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB

LeVon Washington put together a perfect night at the plate against the Great Lakes Loons. He is now hitting .400 on the season with six hits in 15 at-bats, and also has 1.017 OPS. Washington had a disappointing season last year, but things are looking up for him as he adjusts to life in the minors and utilizes his natural athletic talent.

Tim Fedroff: CF, Akron Aeros: 3-for-4, 2 RBIs, 2 BB

Fedroff is off to a good start at Double-A Akron as he currently boasts a .500 batting average. The 25-year old has been in the organization for five years now, and he should probably be playing up in Triple-A Columbus but there just isn’t room for him with so much Major League depth stashed there at the moment. Fedroff played well last season between Akron and Columbus and hopefully he’ll return to Columbus soon.

• Gregorio Petit: SS, Columbus Clippers: 1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI: Petit was the hero of the night on Monday as he hit the game-winning two-out double, giving the Clippers a walk-off win.
• Matt LaPorta: LF, Columbus Clippers: 1-for-4, 2 K: LaPorta continued his tear through AAA with a start in left field Monday night. He’s got two homers on the year and Monday was his first game without an extra-base hit.
• Matt Pagnozzi: C, Columbus Clippers: 1-for-3, 2B, RBI, 2 K: Pagnozzi has taken advantage of every opportunity presented to him at the plate by finding ways to get on base. In eight at-bats, he’s had four hits, four RBIs and a pair of walks.
• Nick Hagadone: RP, Columbus Clippers: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K: Hagadone, whom we caught a handful of glimpses of last season in Cleveland, has remained nearly flawless through two games with Columbus. Hagadone has relinquished one hit and one walk in two games.
• Giovanni Soto: SP, Akron Aeros: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K: Soto’s first start of the season was a good one. Soto is working to prove his place in Akron by utilizing his cutter and deceptive delivery.
• Jesus Aguilar: 1B, Carolina Mudcats: 2-for-4, 2B: Aguilar is continuing to make his case to move up to Double-A Akron as he has hit 7-for-17 so far this year. He’s yet to show off his power, but he’s only struck out twice.
• Tyler Holt: CF, Carolina Mudcats: 1-for-4, R, 3B, RBI, BB, K: Holt is also making his case for Double-A Akron as he maintains a .529 average. He sliced a triple on Monday night after going 4-for-4 on Sunday.
• Dwight Childs: C, Carolina Mudcats: 1-for-4, R, HR, 3 RBI: Childs jacked a 3-run home run on Monday night in his second game of the season. Childs is looking to bounce back after missing most of 2011 with a broken right hand.
• Francisco Lindor: SS, Lake County Captains: 2-for-5, 3B, RBI: After starting off slow the first two games of the season, the organization’s most spotlighted prospect is starting to take off. He’s hit 5-for-9 in his last two games with a stolen base and no strikeouts.
