AKRON - The Akron Aeros lost their home stand finale 7-3 after falling into a deep hole early in the game.

Mason Radeke (1-1, 0.00) lost his first game after pitching three innings in a spot start.

In the first, Radeke got two quick outs before walking B-Mets second baseman Reese Havens.  The next runner reached on a fielding error by shortstop Juan Diaz.  Both runners scored on a three-run home run by right fielder Raul Reyes to right center.

Radeke worked around two base hits the next two innings to keep the score 3-0.  He threw 42 pitches (27 strikes) allowing three runs (none earned) on three hits and one walk.

“I think he came out and really competed well,” said Akron Aeros manager Chris Tremie.  “For him to come out in his first AA start and second AA appearance, I think he threw some good pitches.”

Jose De La Torre came on in relief of Radeke in the fourth but immediately ran into trouble.

Center fielder Juan Lagares and first baseman Travis Ozga hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning, making the score 4-0.  After a single and a pop out, Ozga scored on a sacrifice fly hit to right fielder Thomas Neal.  De La Torre gave up his third double of the inning to shortstop Josh Rodriguez to make the score 6-0 before he retired the side.

De La Torre would give up one more run on another set of back-to-back doubles in the top of the sixth.  Over three innings, he allowed four runs on six hits (five doubles) and one walk while striking out one.

Rob Bryson and Matt Langwell followed De La Torre with three scoreless innings of work, combining for five strikeouts.

The Aeros lineup failed to get on the board until the eighth inning against Binghamton starter Collin McHugh.

After a strikeout to begin the inning, McHugh allowed a double down the left field line to catcher Michel Hernandez, who advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Hernandez scored on a single by center fielder Tim Fedroff.  Diaz followed with a double to left center that scored Fedroff from first.  McHugh left the game after the double, but was charged with an additional run after designated hitter Jared Goedert drove in Diaz with a single.

McHugh pitched seven and one-third innings allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five Akron batters.  He earned his team-leading fourth win of the season.

Relievers Erik Turgeon and Robert Carson stopped the bleeding as they combined to retire the final five Akron hitters of the game.

Akron’s 3-4-5 hitters combined to go 2-for-12 in the game, with one run batted in.  Left fielder Nick Weglarz struggled to make contact, striking out twice.  Weglarz has struck out 24 times in 62 at-bats (38.7%) this season.

“One through nine, these guys can hit,” said Tremie.  “[Their lack of production] doesn’t concern me.  I think collectively they’re going to start putting together a lot of good games.”

Akron will begin a three-game series at Bowie on Friday at 7:05 p.m.  Left-hander Eric Berger (0-3, 5.09) will start for Akron against Bowie left-hander Jacob Petit (3-0, 2.96).  The Aeros will return to Canal Park on Monday, May 7th, against Erie.

Notes: Paolo Espino (left oblique strain) is expected to pitch in Saturday’s game at Bowie. ... Jared Goedert has now hit in five straight games. ... Announced attendance: 1,713.
