Akron Aeros starter Giovanni Soto, a 21-year-old finesse lefthander whom the Indians acquired from Detroit for Jhonny Peralta, pitched a no-hitter today in a 2-1 victory over the Altoona Curve.
Soto, a top 40 prospect in the system, had been having a middling season up to this point, but perhaps had his breakout performance. Soto had gone 5-6 with an ERA slightly over 4.00 heading into today's contest, and many scouts have been mentioning a potential move to the bullpen.
Soto gave up an unearned run and three walks, while striking out six batters. He made 104 pitches, with 64 strikes and 40 balls. He gave up eleven groundballs, and eight pop outs.
Congratulations go out to Soto from IPI on a job well done. Clearly he wanted that top spot in ATF...
