Aguilar Drives in Four as Aeros Roll Thunder, 10-6
April 17, 2013
TRENTON, NJ - Akron took the series with their 10-6 win over Trenton Wednesday at Arm and Hammer Park. The Aeros offense proved to be enough to balance out the bullpen’s ineffective afternoon.
The Thunder struck first in the bottom of the first against Akron starting pitcher Matt Packer. With help from Akron first baseman Jesus Aguilar who recorded two errors in the inning, the Thunder jumped on top 2-0. The Akron defense and Packer settled down after this and he pitched five scoreless innings the rest of the way.
Aguilar made up for his defensive miscues by ripping a two run single in the third inning, scoring teammates Jeremy Lucas and Tyler Holt to tie the game at 2-2.
Akron left fielder Quincy Latimore broke the tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single, pushing the the Aeros to a 3-2 leader over Trenton. The Aeros added onto their lead in the sixth inning when Akron third baseman Giovanny Urshela crushed a home run to left field scoring right fielder Carlos Moncrief. Holt followed Urshela’s home run with one of his own in the seventh inning to push the lead to 6-2.
Things unraveled for the Aeros in the bottom of the seventh. Right hander Robert Whitenack made his season debut replacing Packer in the inning and allowed three runs before he was replaced by right-hander Kyler Landis. Landis finished the inning, but allowed another run and just like that the score was tied at 6-6 through seven innings.
Aguilar had his second big hit of the game in the ninth inning with a two-run RBI single to break the 6-6 tie. A Trenton pitching change did little to stop the Aeros offense as designated hitter Kyle Bellows doubled in Latimore and shortstop Ronny Rodriguez to put Akron up 10-6.
Right-hander Jose Flores closed out the win in the bottom of the ninght pitching a three up three down inning to end the game 10-6. Right-hander Bryce Stowell earned the win after he pitched a scoreless inning in the eighth with three strikeouts.
The Aeros travel back home to Akron for a seven game home stand starting on Thursday where they will face the Bowie Baysox and Trenton Thunder.
