Akron, OH – Aeros first baseman Jesus Aguilar will play many more seasons of professional baseball, hopefully helping the Cleveland Indians to many future wins, but he may never again accomplish what he has done this year for the Aeros.

Aguilar, the Aeros’ 23-year-old slugger, went 1-3, with an RBI sacrifice fly to net his 100th RBI of the season during Akron’s 6-2 victory over the Binghamton Mets Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.

The win completed a series win for the Aeros (64-69), who took three out of four against the league’s top team. The B-Mets (82-52) have already clinched the Eastern Division championship. The Aeros have won eight of their last 10, and will now prepare to face the second-place Erie SeaWolves on Monday night at 7:05, also at Canal Park. The SeaWolves lost at Harrisburg Sunday to fall a half-game behind the Senators in the EL West race.

Aguilar continued to add to his own Aeros record when he lifted a deep fly to left field in the second inning to score Ronny Rodriguez from third base to reach the 100-RBI mark. He managed to the feat in just his 125th game of the season. He leads the EL and the Indians organization in RBI, and is one of only three players in the minor leagues with 100 or more RBI. The other two players are in Class-A.

Akron jumped out to a quick, 3-0 lead in the first inning against B-Mets righthander Greg Peavey (2-2). Rodriguez and Aguilar had infield hits. Tyler Holt smacked an RBI single to right, Aguilar scored on a wild pitch, and Giovanny Urshela chipped in an RBI single to center.

After the B-Mets scored a run in the second against Aeros starter Cody Anderson, the Aeros poured it on again in the bottom of the second, scoring three more times to make it 6-1. Peavey hit Matt Lawson, and was then hit on the leg by a line drive from Jose Ramirez. Rodriguez then bunted for a hit, but the ball was thrown into right field by catcher Blake Forsythe, allowing Lawson to score. Adam Abraham and Aguilar then followed with sacrifice flies to make it 6-1.

Anderson labored in his Canal Park debut and couldn’t benefit from the early run support. He departed after issuing back-to-back walks to lead off the Binghamton fifth inning. He allowed five hits and two runs over four innings, but was lifted after throwing 78 pitches. Righthander Bryce Stowell (3-1) came on induced a double-play grounder, but also unleashed a wild pitch to allow a run to score and make it 6-2. He went on to work two scoreless innings to earn the win. Despite, the wild pitch, Stowell enjoyed one of his best outings of the year. He struck out the final four batters he faced. Of the 24 pitches thrown by Stowell, 17 were strikes.

The Aeros received more solid relief work from lefty Kyle Crockett, who also tossed two scoreless frames, and Jose Flores, who made his league-leading 55th appearance and worked a perfect ninth.

After the rocky start Peavey settled down and pitched through the sixth, saving the B-Mets bullpen from a long work day. Peavey retired the final 12 Aeros hitters he faced.

Rodriguez and Urshela had two hits apiece for the Aeros. Carlos Moncrief sat out his second straight game with an injured finger. The Aeros finished 6-8, in the season-series against the B-Mets.

The Aeros will attempt to play spoiler when they begin a four-game series with the Erie SeaWolves on Monday night at7:05. RHP Victor Larez (8-7, 4.69) is the expected starter for the SeaWolves, while LHP Matt Packer (11-8, 3.34) will make the start for the Aeros.
