Binghampton - The Akron Aeros faced off against the Binghamton Mets on Saturday afternoon and suffered their first loss of the regular season by a score of 2-1.

Right-handed pitcher Steven Wright , who was drafted by the Indians in the second round of the 2006 First Year Player Draft out of The University of Hawaii, took the loss. Before retiring after five innings, Wright allowed three hits, walked two and struck out five.

Right-handed pitcher Rob Bryson, who was acquired in 2008 from the Milwaukee Brewers as part of a four player package in exchange for C.C. Sabathia, relieved Wright. Bryson struck out three, but allowed Binghamton to put a run on the board in the seventh inning.

Right-handed pitcher Toru Murata closed out the game by pitching the ningth inning and walked two batters.

The Mets put their first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with center fielder Matt Den Dekker starting it off with a double to center field. First baseman Allan Dykstra later singled on a ground ball to center, earning the RBI with Den Dekker crossing the plate.

Darin Gorski, who was named the Florida State League’s Pitcher of the Year for 2011, shut the Aeros out over his six innings of work. Gorski allowed only one Aeros player, center fielder Ben Copeland, to reach first base. Gorski struck out seven and walked three.

After being shut out for seven innings, the Aeros lone run of the game came in the top of the 8th inning. Right-hander Erik Turgeon was in the game for the Mets, and with two down catcher Roberto Perez hit a home run to right field.

Akron tried to get the bats going in the top of the ninth. With two outs designated hitter Chun Chen walked, but right fielder Thomas Neal grounded into a force out to end the game.

The Aeros face the B-Mets again on Sunday to close out their opening series in Binghamton.  After the conclusion of the series they will move on to face Altoona in a three game series starting April 9.
