Aeros blown out by the Senators, 11-2
HARRISBURG, PA- The Harrisburg Senators finished a three game sweep of the Akron Aeros Wednesday afternoon at Metro Bank Park with an 11-2 win. Aeros RHP Will Roberts (6-8) took the loss for the Aeros while Harrisburg's Taylor Hill stretched his winning record to 7-2.
After Akron went down one, two, three in the top of the first inning, Harrisburg kept their momentum going and scored four runs in their first at bat. Harrisburg's Jimmy Van Ostrand hit a three run home run off Roberts and Sean Nichol had an RBI single.
Akron failed to get on base in their second and third at bats but Harrisburg's lineup continued to give Roberts a hard time. After hitting leadoff batter Van Ostrand with a pitch and a fielding error by Akron's left fielder Quincy Latimore, the third inning ended with Akron trailing by six runs.
Aero's bats livened up in the top of the fourth inning and they were able to put a run up on the board. Cedric Hunter hit a one-out double to center field and was brought in after Jesus Aguilar hit another double up the middle.
After a pitching change by Akron in the top of the sixth inning, Harrisburg took advantage and stretched their lead by another four runs. Akron pitcher Rob Bryson (1-2) gave up four hits including a three-run home run to Harrisburg'sBrian Goodwin. Struggling to get out of the inning, Akron changed pitchers again and sent Enosil Tejeda (1-2) to the mound to finish the inning.
Akron never caught up to the Senators but managed to score one more run in the top of the ninth inning. Giovanny Urshela hit a two-out solo home run off Harrisburg closer Marcos Frias but Akron was unable to get a rally started.
The Aeros return home on Thursday when they take on the Altoona Curve in a five game series at Canal Park.
