The Lynchburg Hillcats scored five straight over the second half of Saturday night’s game at Calvin Falwell Field to win 7-3 over the Carolina Mudcats. Lynchburg wins the weekend series over Carolina with the triumph.

The AZL Indians bullpen couldn’t throw the shutout innings they needed in a back-and-forth game on Friday night. After starter Kieran Lovegrove threw 3 shutout innings, each pitcher after him surrendered at least a run. However, from an offensive standpoint, second baseman Claudio Bautista kept his hot hitting up with two hits and his 4th homer of the season.

Low-A Lake County catcher Jake Lowery's season to date has not gone as he hoped it would at the outset. After starting the season at High-A Carolina, he ran into some struggles and was reassigned to Lake County in July. With just a few weeks left in the season he wants to finish strong and give himself something to build on for next year. Stephanie Metzger recently sat down with him to discuss how things are going.

The Indians ran into a tough pitcher last night as Clay Buchholz was on his A-game and threw a complete game two-hitter in a 3-2 Red Sox win. The Indians actually got a surprisingly solid start from lefty Chris Seddon, probably his last before Roberto Hernandez is activated this week. Jim Berdysz provides his second thoughts on the game.

The modus operandi for the Carolina Mudcats offense has been to battle until the final out this year. Trailing 6-1 going into the ninth, the Mudcats nearly overcame the odds by bringing the tying run to the plate, but the Lynchburg Hillcats held on for a 6-3 win on Friday night at Calvin Falwell Field.

The Aeros split their double header with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, winning the first 7-2 and the second 1-0 Friday night at Canal Park. In game one, the Aeros were led by left fielder Nick Weglarz’s four RBI game and demonstrated a balanced approach at the plate, scattering seven hits and scoring seven runs en route to a 7-2 victory.

After five and one half innings of play between the Lake County Captains and the Great Lakes Loons on Friday night, both teams could only sit and watch as Mother Nature began joined the contest as an uninvited third party.

Facing a 3-1 deficit heading into the late innings, it may have seemed like déjà vu for the Scrappers, who found themselves in the midst of a stretch where nothing seemed to be going to plan. But a late five run rally was the perfect remedy for their struggles, as they went on to defeat the Batavia Muckdogs 7-3 Friday night and end their six game losing streak.

2012 Third-Round draft pick Kieran Lovegrove enjoyed his first stellar outing in tonight's Around the Farm, after starting off the season as a struggling 17-year old. Nelson Rodriguez legged out his second triple of the season, while Joe Wendle continued to own the New York/Penn League. Jordan Henry is returning to form, while Gregorio Petit is in rare form. The Columbus Clippers returned home to Huntington Park Friday night after a lengthy road trip and started off their home stand with a win. Columbus defeated the Indianapolis Indians, 5-1, to open a four-game set against the International League’s best team.

The NY-Penn League All Star game is set to take place this coming Tuesday at Eastwood Field, the home of the Indians' short season Single-A Mahoning Valley affiliate. The starter for the American League in the game is none other than the Indians' and Scrappers' very own Luis DeJesus. The IPI's Matt Miller recently sat down with the talented righty about his season to date and his selection to the All Star team.

It's amazing what happens when you get quality starts from your starting pitcher. The Indians have now received three straight quality starts and won the last two (and should have three wins in a row), the most recent of which being last night's 5-3 win over the Red Sox. One thing the AZL Indians squad has rarely had an issue with is scoring runs. On Thursday night, they scored seven of them on 15 hits against the AZL Brewers in a 7-2 win. Sean Mahon was once again on-hand to take in the game with scouts, and has all kinds of nuggets on the pitch speeds and effectiveness of Mitch Brown, Joshua Nervis and others, and also some insight into the performances of Dorsyss Paulino, Anthony Santander, D'Vone McClure and others.

Matt LaPorta and Russ Canzler went back-to-back, Delvi Cid flashed his speed and a little bit of power, and Dorssys Paulino did the sort of Dorssys Paulino things that Jim Piascik just can't get enough of last night. Yet, a very familiar name managed to muscle his way to the top of Around The Farm. Despite scoring almost as many runs as they had in their last four games combined, the Scrappers dropped their sixth straight game Thursday, losing in 11 to the Batavia Muckdogs in their first meeting of the year.
