If last night was a heartbreaker, tonight was a backbreaker. It was just a night ago that the Scrappers fell behind to Batavia, regained the lead, and lost it late. Tonight wasn’t much different, as they battled back from a 3-0 hole to tie the game before eventually falling, 4-3.

The Lake County Captains took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning and held onto a 3-2 lead over the Lansing Lugnuts on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 7,162 people.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans struck out 16 batters en route to a 7-2 win over the Carolina Mudcats on Saturday night at TicketReturn.com Field. The Mudcats had at least two hitters strikeout twice in one inning from the third stanza on to tie a season-high in strikeouts.

Reading starter Ethan Martin threw seven innings of shutout ball and the R-Phils scored one run in the seventh to beat the Akron Aeros, 1-0, on Saturday night at Canal Park.

When the Indians drafted Joe Sever, few knew that his uncle was none other than John Elway. Talk about being behind the eight-ball in Cleveland. That hasn't stopped Sever from starting his career off in grand fashion at Mahoning Valley, as he's hitting over .300, and recently finished second in the NY/Penn home run derby. The only question remaining is whether or not Sever can make it to Cleveland, and change Cleveland opinions on the Elway family.

The Mudcats entered week #19 at a pivotal point. The team was certainly not in contention for a playoff spot, but if they wanted to be more than just a waystation for prospects, they needed to move now. Instead, they played .500 baseball again, wasting perhaps the biggest week for any Mudcats player offensively during the entire season. The Muddies also bid adieu to Jesus Aguilar, who is heading to greener pastures...Let's Get Fishing...

While this was one of the quieter weeks in terms of the transaction wire, that doesn't mean it was boring. The past week saw the Clippers roster briefly hit 21, a trade with the Orioles, multiple promotions, Josh Tomlin and Kyle Petter on the DL, the clearing of the Tribe's DFA backlog, the professional debut of Caleb Hamrick in Goodyear, and the return of Roberto Hernandez to the Major Leagues.

The Cleveland Indians took a commanding 4-0 lead in Game 119, as he launched a grand slam in the fourth inning. It wasn't enough though, as the A's ran off six unanswered runs against the beleaguered Indians, as they dropped the Tribe 6-4. For much of the year, Danny Salazar has been held to a very strict pitch count. Fresh off of Tommy John surgery, the Indians obviously want to be cautious of the young right-hander's innings count. On Friday, however, Salazar might have just pitched his best start yet. Plus, Thomas Neal continues to annihilate Double-A pitching. Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Carolina Mudcats scored two in the sixth, and held the Myrtle Beach Pelicans without a hit over the final four innings to win 4-3 on a wet Friday night at TicketReturn.com Field.

DAYTON – Mason Radeke led the Lake County Captains to a 5-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons as he tossed six innings of scoreless ball for his sixth win of the season.

Two Clippers that have been a major reason for Columbus' success at the plate this season were responsible for another victory Friday night. Behind the bats of Cord Phelps and Russ Canzler, the Clippers defeated the Durham Bulls, 4-3. Columbus won for the second night in a row after beating the Bulls, 7-1, Thursday. With the win, Columbus splits its four-game set against Durham.

Akron, OH – The Aeros were clicking on all cylinders Friday night on both offense and defense, as the team capitalized on a stellar outing from Danny Salazar and scattered 14 hits in a dominant affair to roll past the Reading Phillies 9-1 at Canal Park.

For a while, it seemed like an otherwise mundane Friday night was going to be a special night. Maybe even a perfect night. The weather was near perfect; mid-seventies, clear with a nice breeze. The atmosphere was near perfect, helped by a small but vibrant Eastwood Field crowd. And the game was…near perfect, at least for one man.
