Ezequiel Carrera is hitting .317 over his last 44 games, and Tim Fedroff is hitting .384 over his last 20 games. Both are making a play for a potential bench role this year, should an injury force the Indians hand. Chris Seddon and Jake Sisco continue to pitch well, while Mahoning Valley hits like garbage. The Carolina Mudcats pulled out a 4-2 win against the Lynchburg Hillcats on a rainy night at Five County Stadium. For the second straight night the start of the game would be delayed as a rain storm pushed the start time back 31 minutes and then caused the game to end after the eighth. The Mudcats pitchers didn’t mind, as for the second straight night they turned in a great performance.
A late-inning rally effort fell short for the Lake County Captains as they could not overcome the Cedar Rapids Kernals on Saturday night, resulting in a 4-3 loss. All-Star right-hander Cody Anderson graced the mound for the Captains against Cedar Rapids righty Dan Reynolds.
The Scrapper offense probably wishes they could have stayed a few extra nights in Jamestown. After collecting 15 hits in Friday’s twin bill against the Jammers in Jamestown, they only collected two hits at Eastwood Field in a 5-2 loss Saturday night.
It was a quick, dramatic and well-pitched contest on Saturday night as the Columbus Clippers (52-49) defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (55-46) by a final score of 4-3. Matt Pagnozzi provided the heroics, with a ninth inning homer to give the Clippers the victory.
The AZL Indians had their game suspended on the fourth of July thanks to some of mother nature's fireworks. Today the Indians have announced that right-handed pitcher Roberto Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, has been granted his visa by the U.S. Consulate in the Dominican Republic and is scheduled to arrive in Cleveland this evening. With the government's decision made and his return official, Major League Baseball handed down a three week suspension for age and idenity fraud. He is eligible to return on August 11th.
Enough treading water. The Indians need to make a move. With many saying this team can't win, or wait until next year, Jim Pete is off that bandwagon. This team can win, and win now. DAVENPORT, IA — The Quad Cities River Bandits (15-12, 50-46) took the lead in the fourth inning and the bullpen closed down the remainder of the game, earning a 5-3 win over the Lake County Captains (14-13, 45-51) on Friday.
ZEBULON — The Carolina Mudcats (15-12) took the first game of the series from the Lynchburg Hillcats (14-13) Friday night, winning 3-0 after a 53 minute rain delay.
LEHIGH VALLEY – The Columbus Clippers (51-49) continued with their winning ways on Friday night as they defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (55-45) by a final score of 6-2. It is the Clippers’ fourth win in the last five games.
After rain forced the suspension of Thursday’s game, the Scrappers and Jammers played two on Friday. The Scrappers were able to win the second game 2-1, but blew a 6-3 lead they carried over in the first game, as the lost 9-7 and settled for a split.
Jacob Lee has been mightily impressive in the early going of his professional career, but on Friday, he might have just had his most impressive start to date. Also, Jesus Aguilar impresses once again, but this time he does it without showing off that home run power. All this and more after the jump.
