Double-A Akron left-handed pitcher Giovanni Soto made a date with history on Sunday when he threw the second nine inning complete game no-hitter in franchise history. Even with the huge accomplishment, Soto is determined to use it as a building block for a strong finish and continue to develop as a pitcher. Stephanie Metzger recently sat down with the talented southpaw and talked about the no-hitter and more...
The short season Single-A Mahoning Valley Scrappers went 3-3 this week, staying right at .500 as the season rages on. The offense has picked up, the starters have looked solid, so what's the problem? Site columnist Andrew Zajac has the answer and recaps the week that was in his weekly notebook "The Scrapperbook".
The Indians were up against a tough foe on Thursday as they tried to win the series against the Rays with their ace David Price on the mound. Things did not go so well as Price dominated and the Rays had a big sixth inning to blow the game open and win easily 6-0. Jason Ruggiero gives his "second thoughts" on the game...
On the same night that Bruce Wayne rose as the Dark Knight, the Indians had plenty of players rising in their system. Members of the Sabour-tooth fan club were given reason to cheer, as were those who root for Jared Goedert. The top spot from Thursday night belongs to the ultimate rising story, a pitcher returning from injury to dominate again. As always, click on the link to join Jim Piascik as he takes you Around The Farm.
The Scrappers traveled to Jamestown seeking to make the most of their short two game road trip. They got off to a good start Thursday night, jumping out to a 6-3 lead early on against the Jammers. The weather failed to cooperate, however, as heavy rain forced the game to be suspended after just three innings of play.
The Quad Cities River Bandits (14-12, 49-46) jumped on the Lake County Captains (14-12, 45-50) early and got a great night from their pitching staff to snap the Captains’ five game winning streak.
The Akron Aeros scored four runs in the first inning and held on for Matt Packer’s first win of the season, beating the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 4-3.
Behind one of their best offensive performances of the season Thursday, the Clippers won the final game of their series against Louisville 13-12, but even with the strong output at the plate, the victory did not come easily.
The Captains are currently on a five-game winning streak and everything is clicking for them. Jordan Smith was named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the second time this season, and lots of other players on the roster have really played well of late. In today’s Minor Happenings, Tony takes a look at the no-hitter by lefty Giovanni Soto and the development he has made this year as a prospect, the strides Jordan Smith has made both offensively and defensively, he runs through another infirmary report with several updates on some of the walking wounded in the system, talks with the Indians front office about players at several different levels in the system, and tons more.
The Indians exploded offensively last night and scored ten runs with two outs and beat the Rays 10-6 in a much needed win for them. Justin Masterson struggled, but the bullpen and defense kept them close until the offense found a way to break...and then Carlos Santana's moon shot put the game away. Charlie Adams breaks down the game only how he can in today's "Second Thoughts".
Tyler Cannon is a name that not many people have been paying attention to in the Indians system, but he's quietly becoming a factor in the system, both offensively and defensively. The Lake County offensive crew seems to be back on track and loaded for bear, led by some pesky infielder named Lindor. At the top of the charts on Wednesday night is one of my favorite players in the system...if only the Indians would feel the same way...
The Carolina Mudcats launched some towering home runs to drive across six in an 11-9 win over the Winston-Salem Dash on Wednesday afternoon at Five County Stadium. A crowd of 1,852 watched Bo Greenwell, Ronny Rodriguez and Carlos Moncrief crush long balls throughout the afternoon, and the Mudcats improved to 15-11, 46-49 overall.
The Scrappers and Spikes engaged in high-scoring affair Wednesday night, with the Spikes coming out victorious 8-6. Josh Martin took the hill, looking to earn his fourth straight win. During that three game stretch, he had only given up five runs on ten hits. He was opposed by the highly touted young Mexican prospect Luis Heredia.
The Lake County Captains (14-11, 45-49) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and Shawn Morimando pitched six great innings to defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits (13-12, 48-46) on Thursday night. With the win Lake County matched a season high with five straight wins.
